Toronto has spent a lot of money recently and it hasn't exactly been working out for them... then again their farm is empty so they may have to make some moves of this kind.

I really think Gonzalez is preferable to the available trade options. Why pay for Peavy in prospects and who is owed big money next year when you can sign Gonzalez?

I really think Gonzalez is preferable to the available trade options. Why pay for Peavy in prospects and who is owed big money next year when you can sign Gonzalez? Because even with the injury concerns, Peavy is a much, much more certain bet to be an upgrade on the internal options than a Cuban defector who hasn't been scouted facing hitters in a competitive situation.

I think MAG could help in the pen but probably needs some starts and time in the minors or spring. Peavy will cost similar to Garza and I'm not sure I'd like that given his injuries.
MAG would allow us to dangle some SP this offseason. Maybe the group in the minors or Lester.

theres not much point arguing how good he is. We really have almost no information to go on. I would'nt want to sign him if they don't think he will be better than the guys we currently have in the upper minors. If they think his talent represents a unique opportunity to add a top tier player then great.

espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/48550Have you had a chance to see/hear about Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez? Does he project as a front-end starter or something lesser? Klaw (1:08 PM) Haven't seen except a little video. Have talked to several scouts who did, general reports seem to have him as a likely above-average MLB starter, fastball up to 96, plus slider, four pitches, arm works. I can't imagine dealing with the inflation in Cuban free agents, but he's got to be worth $40MM+ in this market.

So anything new on devers? I guess NO ONE has any info on Rafael Devers? It is really hard for me to believe that he hasn't been signed at this time. What is going on? Many other international free agents have been signed at this point. As to back round checks, how has this stuff not been done very early for a prospect like Devers who has always been a top 10 talent? Rafael Devers should be starting his career before the season ends!

When he signs is completely irrelevant.

Don't think we have anything to be worried about.

I bet he's still going through the background check and all. If he was still "out there" fielding offers, I'm pretty sure we'd be hearing news
