When you look at the lineup OPS you understand the difficulties they have to score runs: Just TWO guys are hitting over .800! Your DH and 1st baseman (normaly offensive oriented positions) are OPSing in the .700. Frankly, the most depressing stats to me are Xander's: Dude is hitting a lousy 101 wRC+ while having an elite .348 BABIP !!! It's amazing that they're in first place.

Not nearly enough. Even Papi couldn't average an extra 1-2 runs per game. That requires someone better than Barry Bonds. You have to hope for the guys like Betts, JBJ, Xander, Benintendi and Hanley to hit like they should hit. That's the only way to get all the runs we need. I get this and agree, But hope is a poor risk mitigator. The addittion of Sale was a great move and has, so far, poved the difference in the division race. The subtraction of Shaw may in fact prove to be this team's undoing, first with Sandoval's non-showing, and now with Moreland's plummet, two positions which Shaw could fill-in for. Barring a major trade or Devers moving from essentially AA to MLB without missing an offensive beat - something which, historically, would be nearly unprecedented for a 20 year old, even among top offensive prospects - this team will be hard pressed to generate enough offense to win close games against quality opponents - or as we've seen in the last week, even against substandard opponents. Devers should help but they probably need a DH/1b that can mash and I doubt there are many of those guys available that won't 1) put them over the luxury tax limit and 2) clean out their remaining farm system. I wouldn't tamper with their starters because as soon as you do there will be an injury. And I certainly wouldn't deal Benintendi to get a masher. Benintendi will have better seasons in the future than 2017. Unless something falls into their laps I can't see them finding an .800 OPS rental guy there for the taking. Meanwhile I'll dream about Stanton being available this offseason if somebody will take on his contract. I'd want money available for Betts and Sale for extensions but would let everybody else walk when its their time and go get Stanton to DH or convert to 1b so that the Sox have a legit cleanup hitter to center their lineup around. As it is now there is no one guy you really fear in that lineup. When Papi was there it totally changed the lineup. I think guys were more relaxed. These guys are tight. Meanwhile maybe Dombrowski surprised us and finds an .800 OPS rental type of guy without killing the system. Either way it will take more than Devers to fix this issue this season.

Frederick Porcello has been replacement level this year. This is not true. Only ONE time he fail to complete 6 inning this year.

Weird that they are so different, but yesterday's start increased his 2017 bWAR from 0.0 to 0.1 Peripherals vs. results mostly. I think yesterday's start actually hurt his fWAR he had about a 7.3 FIP.
