It'll be interesting to see how Elias does just before the deadline.

What do you mean? I can't imagine anything Elias does will affect what the team does at the deadline. Nobody's going to trade for him and he's not going to slot in as an 8th-inning type or anything.

The proverbial you can never have to much pitching.

Yeah, I didn't read your post as "It'll be interesting what he does because it informs what they do at the deadline", but as "it'll be interesting what he does because he becomes more important if they do something".

Yeah, his first start at the AAA level this season doesn't strike me as enough to move the dial there. If he doesn't have a physical setback, the dial is moved. I don't see anyone else after the three I mentioned as a better option later in the year. Small increment but it wouldn't be the first time an 8th or 9th starter was used. After him, we have a series of has-beens or never-weres including one in Boston right now.

I don't necessarily agree. He only threw 47 pitches in his last start. I'm not counting on him for anything unless he gets several starts under his belt that are at least 80 or so pitches. I want to see health for more than a single start before he even gets back onto the radar if I'm the Red Sox.

Salem has an interesting pitching choice tonight. This would have been Anderson's place in the rotation, but now they need a new starter. Boyd and McGrath both threw last night (though McGrath only threw nine pitches), so that's both of their PB starters that I wouldn't count on them having. Skipping Anderson would bring us back to Raudes, who pitched four days ago (90 pitches). Odds on McGrath or Raudes?

Skipping Anderson would bring us back to Raudes, who pitched four days ago (90 pitches). Odds on McGrath or Raudes? Could be a bullpen game. Nogosek is on 3 days' rest and Glorius is on 2 days', so start with them and go from there? Nogosek has gone >2 innings in his last three outings, so his usage has changed since his promotion. I also noticed that Weems, while active, hasn't pitched since 7/15. Osnowitz last pitched on his rehab assignment on 7/23, so maybe activate him to start the bullpen game and send Weems to the DL. Osnowitz has had a couple of longer outings in his last two, throwing 99 pitches between the two outings. Robby Sexton also lines up to pitch tonight, so they could call him up for a spot start before putting Boyd back into the rotation. The fact that they went ahead and used both Boyd and McGrath last night signals to me that they had a plan for today, so either an Osnowitz or Sexton move probably makes the most sense.

Durin O'Linger was promoted to Salem from Lowell. Interesting...maybe just for the game?

Take it with a huge grain of salt, but Scherff posted on Instagram that the GCL game was cancelled because half of the team had food poisoning.

Two J2 debuts in game one for the DSL today. Alexander Montero: 2 IP, 1 H, and 2 Ks. OF Lewis Baez with a SF in his only AB.
Edit add: Baez started game two in CF and went 0-4, 2 Ks with an error.

Thank goodness... looks like we don't need to start talking about moving Houck to the outfield.

Omar Infante has played 88 games for the Toledo Mud Hens this season at age 35. He played 120 games for them when he was 20.

Jeremy Rivera has doubled in both his ABs so far tonight. Gives him 18 in 49 games this year. He had 19 in 111 ABs last year. Tied for 10th in the system, 7 behind the leader (Baldwin, who has impressively hit 25 in only 69 games). Rivera's 18 have come in only 49 games, at least 20 games less than every person in front of him.
Edit: He then doubled in his third AB. 19 in 50 games. Baldwin hit his 26th in his 70th game.

I want to see health for more than a single start before he even gets back onto the radar if I'm the Red Sox. It's midseason and we have 8 healthy starters ahead of him. Even if he was at 100 pitches, he is not likely to be needed anytime soon whether or not the Sox trade one of the pitchers in front of him. If I'm the Sox, he's on my radar as a future emergency piece that's a better option than Kendrick or Fister. Nothing exciting, just the situation at hand and, I'm not sure if Haley is going to slot in ahead of him in the depth chart but haven't been following Haley at all this year. Is it me or do the minors seem less interesting without Devers ?

How about Bobby Poyner? 25 innings at AA, 34 strikeouts, 10 hits, 5 walks. Time to see if he's for real?

Other than Robbie Scott (when he's not in Boston) and Edgar Olmos (spends at least half the time starting), Pawtucket doesn't have a good deal in lefty relievers. Poyner could see another promotion if a spot opens up.

Just edited a Scouting Scratch that includes Poyner, FYI all. where can I read that? Not seeing. Trying to think of guys the org has really groomed as clearly a short inning reliever, per se? Craig Hansen I suppose.
