I'm feeling a little hypothetical after reading this article. www.mlbdailydish.com/2017/7/26/16034194/mlb-trade-rumors-michael-fulmer-tigers-tradeAnd that is what the trade proposal subforum is for, so I'll propose Michael Fulmer Justin Verlander Miguel Cabrera Justin Wilson For David Price Michael Chavis Sam Travis Josh Ockimey CJ Chatham My basis: you are exchanging bad contracts with Price and Cabrera, but Cabrera's is way worse, so you use the goodwill from that swap + taking on Verlander to get Fulmer and Wilson. Prospects make up the difference and sell the Tigers base on the rebuild. DD gets his win now team (which I despise but we're already there) and a lot of his familiar players. Red Sox get a first baseman, reliever, and some SP help. Maybe I'm low on Price but I don't have a good feeling about him, although I feel that x2 for Cabrera's contract. Yea, I get it, but it's trade proposal subforums.

I don't think that's nearly enough for the tigers to trade fulmer in the deal. Take fulmer out and maybe it works.

I doubt anyone will take Price even if we take on a bad contract as well. Bad contract, bad performance, and an elbow issue. To make this work, either we don't get Fulmer or we're adding Groome plus more

Sox don't want or need Cabrera right now. Too old and too expensive, not to mention it would be difficult to get everyone enough ABs. Price will opt out after this year to get the hell out of Boston. Best trade with the Tigers would be:
Justin Wilson LHP Austin Sodders LHP (HiA)
for
Henry Owens LHP (AA) Michael Chavis 3B (AA) Josh Ockimey 1B (HiA) Mike Shawaryn RHP (HiA)

That would be a bad trade for the Red Sox.
You'd be cleaning out the best of their 2nd tier talent. I'd rather have six years of Chavis than a year and a fraction of Justin Wilson.
You'd be clearing out the two best power bats the Sox have in the farm system left now that Devers has graduated and a pitcher with a strong K/BB ratio, who if he makes it as a starter, in my opinion, could be a #3/#4 type starter.

Ouch!! to me those are all ugly trades. Hopefully Price does not have serious arm problems, so that he is inclined to leave. That solves a lot Addition by subtraction.

If you really wanted to get hypothetical and I'm not saying I advocate this, how about this for a trade?
Miguel Cabrera and Justin Verlander to the Red Sox for David Price and Hanley Ramirez?
Cabrera's contract could be a killer, but it was only a year ago he was still hitting like Miguel Cabrera. The risk with him is that if this is the new Cabrera you're screwed until 2023.
But there's also risk with David Price. His arm could very well be a ticking time bomb that the Red Sox get very little out for the duration of his contract thru 2021.
Hanley and Verlander have their own shorter term sets of risks, but for the Tigers Hanley and Price would replace Cabrera at 1b and Verlander in the rotation while for the Red Sox Cabrera would be the DH for the remainder of his 30s while Verlander would take Price's spot in the rotation.
Again I'm not advocating for or against. Opinions?

Price right now I might take a bag of balls and a batting practice pitcher. Miguel would be interesting. Could be Ortiz late in his career. mighty temping. Cabrera into 2023 yikes could mess up the future salary structure big time. BUT, I think I like it.
