I like Mookie too but the fact is he's hitting .272. He's under-performing in a way very similar to the way Ramirez is performing. It's really ridiculous the way fan pick on players who are making a lot of money. There is no doubt in my mind that if Betts had signed a 20 million dollar a year contract after last season quite a large number of fans would be ripping him to pieces for the year he is having. Mookie is 3rd in the AL in fWAR. A large number of fans would be morons for ripping him. Even with his "down" season, he's worth way more than $20 million a year.

And that's very understandable. When a player signs a big contract a lot more is expected of him. Which is, in reality, illogical because a player is the same person the day after he signs a megabucks contract as he was the day before he signed it. Contracts are market-based, not performance-inducing. If anything, some players falter under the weight of [illogical] increased expectations. The player may be the same, but the expectations are different.

Offensively, he's definitely not playing up to projections/expectations.

I'm hoping for a Rafa Devers Oppo-field 2B tonight.

Seriously Xander....when did you become so bad at baseball. Can't believe he tried to tag up on that.

Xander had to be thinking that ball was going to third. Why else would he tag from first?

What are you doing Xander?!! JFC. Now KC can get out of this inning with no runs allowed.

Alex Speier @alexspeier 13 sec. The Red Sox are now up to 52 baserunning outs, 6 more than any other team in MLB.
Adding insult to injury

I'm willing to bet that literally no one expected Vazquez to hit a triple tonight.
Come on Rafael, drive him in.

Could have been a three-run inning easily. Very costly mistake by Xander.

Devers hit that ground out 112 mph. He hits the ball harder than anyone on the team already.

Wish there were a way to award pitchers a strikeout instead of a walk on the stat line when the 3-2 pitch was an obvious strike.

Eduardo Rodriguez isn't going to last more than 4 innings with his pitch count.

Eduardo Rodriguez isn't going to last more than 4 innings with his pitch count. He is getting incredibly squeezed. He should have two K's this inning and has zero.

Great AB and piece of clutch hitting by Vazquez....but incredibly frustrating that it should be 2-0 with a man on third with 1 out. This team.... >.<

Wish there were a way to award pitchers a strikeout instead of a walk on the stat line when the 3-2 pitch was an obvious strike. I number one thing rules related thing I would like to see happen in all of sports would be the elimination of the home plate umpire. The technology needs a little more development because it would require a box shape to account for the length of the plate rather than a simple rectangle, but even a rectangle does a better job than any umpire.
