It's not the Sox' call to get the game in. It's up tp the umpire crew. Have the lineup cards been submitted yet? If not, it's up to the home team, not the umpires I believe.

If the field of play isn't in playing condition, the umpires have a right to stop a game at any point. I'm sure the decision to postpone the game comes from all 3 of the away, home, and umpires decision.

No one wants to put the players at risk. But it's the home team's decision.

they will likely do whatever they can to get this in, right? it is getting late in the season and this is the only time Cleveland comes to Boston.

The Sox and Indians have common off days the next two Mondays. They can postpone this game if they needed to. If I had to guess that it would be this Monday where they would make up this game because the Sox would still be in Boston by Sunday. It would also give the Sox and Indians a rematch of Sale and Carrasco, which would be awesome.

Austin Maddox up, Scott down. Looks like we're gonna waste an option on Scott. Too bad. Should probably be good to go by next year anyway though. Same with Tzu-Wei Lin.

He'd only previously been down for seven days - if a player is optioned for a less than 20 days total in a season, he doesn't burn that option year. Though if Robby Scott is in danger of not sticking in 2020 then that would be its own issue.

LOOGYS grow on trees.

mlbrulesproject.blogspot.com/2012/05/rule-310.htmlRule 3.10 (a) The home team shall be the sole judge as to whether a game shall not be started because of unsuitable weather conditions or the unfit condition of the playing field, except for the second game of a doubleheader. EXCEPTION: Any league may permanently authorize its president to suspend the application of this rule as to that league during the closing weeks of its championship season in order to assure that the championship is decided each year on its merits. When the postponement of, and possible failure to play, a game in the final series of a championship season between any two teams might affect the final standing of any club in the league, the president, on appeal from any league club, may assume the authority granted the home team by this rule. (b) The umpire-in-chief of the first game shall be the sole judge as to whether the second game of a doubleheader shall not be started because of unsuitable weather conditions or the unfit condition of the playing field."

Ben Taylor may be in option trouble though.

Ben Taylor has used one option this year. If he's not on the team permanently by 2020, then no loss.

Relatively painless. They were put out of their misery quickly in the 9th.

The Sox ran into a situation like this earlier in the year. It was with Pomeranz against the twins at home. The home team (Red Sox) was ready to go and Pomeranz was all warmed up and ready. The Twins manager brought up that the field wasn't suitable to play and the umpire delayed the game. Farrell argued on the side of the Sox (because Pomeranz had warmed up) and the Sox were the home team. Didn't matter. The game DIDN'T start to that point. The umpire always has the last final say whether the game starts or this wouldn't of happened.

Game to be made up August 14th. That really is a killer. The Sox will get to face Miller coming off the 10 day DL all over again instead of potentially missing him in this game.
