Spinners postponed. Thompson's debut will have to wait.

Another double for Baldwin. Think he ends up in Salem before the end of the year?

I don't think so personally. It's not like he's owning the league, and more time spent developing defensively in an environment he's comfortable with is likely beneficial for him.
Baldwin is definitely one of my favorite guys to watch so far this year though, he's had a nice season.

Groome strikes out the side in the third, he's looking much sharper tonight than his last time out.

I haven't been able to find any sort of statistics; any assistance?

Not too sure how to help with that. I was merely giving my basic opinion from watching him on Milb.tv games.

I think the assumption that the focus of his development is on defense has to do with the fact that he's pretty new to catching.

Groome is starting to look like a pitcher tonight ... 5 In 1 hit 1 walk 7k's. Hope he keeps this up.

He's leading the league in slugging, fifth in ops, 2nd in doubles. I have no idea about his defense, but he's sure getting close to owning the league at the plate.

Thompson threw 128.2 innings for Oregon State this year, 33 more than Houck threw for Mizzou. Another college arm that's likely to have a very short leash tonight.Wow, you weren't kidding. VERY short leash. Also, great to see Jay had a gem of game. Like mentioned before, it would be nice for him to put together a few of these (though this past pitching line will be hard to duplicate).

I think the assumption that the focus of his development is on defense has to do with the fact that he's pretty new to catching. He's been a catcher since he signed at least, so I wouldn't say he's new to the position. He just has also played a lot of third base for whatever reason, and in 2015 barely played any, again, for whatever reason. If he becomes a guy we'll find out. I don't think so personally. It's not like he's owning the league, and more time spent developing defensively in an environment he's comfortable with is likely beneficial for him. Baldwin is definitely one of my favorite guys to watch so far this year though, he's had a nice season. What would "owning" the league mean? He's leading the league in slugging, fifth in ops, 2nd in doubles. I have no idea about his defense, but he's sure getting close to owning the league at the plate. All but one of Baldwin's home runs have been to left, as have most of his doubles, and 8 of his 12 have been at home (and he generally has hit a lot better at home than on the road). Greenville has a short porch in left where it has a "mini-monster," so that's likely fueling a large amount of his slugging in home runs going over and doubles hitting the wall. His non-power numbers, on the other hand, are nice-but-not-amazing. He's having a great year and his prospect standing is on the rise (up to 30 in the August rankings here), but I'm not all the way in on him yet.

There is nothing wrong with prospects going mostly Year to year as far as promotions go. There's WAY too many calls for a promotion on this site after a guy gets hot for 2-3 weeks. Not saying this is this case here but there's no need to push the guy.
Chavis is an example, though. He's suddenly hot in AA and people want to promote him to Boston. Not everyone is Mookie or Benni. Even Devers went went essentially one stop every year until this year.

Greenville pitching coach Walter Miranda said Groome has practiced relentlessly to develop his changeup and that the pitch has improved to the point where the 18-year-old trusts it enough to work it into his repertoire regularly. "This is probably the best my changeup has ever been in my life," Groome said. "It's still a work-in-progress, but the only way it can get better is if I keep throwing it, and that's what I did today a lot more than I usually do in every start." www.milb.com/milb/news/boston-red-sox-jay-groome-tosses-six-one-hit-innings/c-246069730/t-185364810
