A lot of talented pitchers going tonight. Groome, Beeks, Thomson. Raudes is also nice to keep a eye on. Portland is the only one that doesn't have a pitcher worth noting starting a game, but they have Chavis and Ockimey now.

McAvoy is worth noting, imo.

Thompson threw 128.2 innings for Oregon State this year, 33 more than Houck threw for Mizzou. Another college arm that's likely to have a very short leash tonight.

After last night, Chavis brought his K% for the year below 20%. It's now at 19.94%. Still not a great K:BB, but considering his massive power surge it is definitely impressive.

Chavis seems to be figuring it all out...wonder how long before he gets a taste of Pawtucket? Nice to see....

There's nothing in it for anyone to name a team's spring training home the best short-season ballpark, even if there is technically a short-season team that plays there. Even if they did, the fact that the GCL experience doesn't include any vendors or merch or anything would probably factor in.

To all New England folk, I recommend checking out Dunkin Donuts Park in Hartford if it's ever convenient or when Portland is in town. The city of Hartford isn't special, and the construction was a fiasco, but it's a great park. I like Hadlock more but that may be my #2.

How long until O'Linger's arm falls off? Wasn't he used heavily this year as he didn't think he would be turning pro? He seems to be used as a fill in everywhere thus far. They haven't brought him along slowly like most of the other college arms.

Dunkin Donuts Park was a beautiful park and it looked like there were a lot of intriguing seating options in the outfield with grills and such. Although I'm assuming the majority of us try to stick near the scouts.

They haven't brought him along slowly like most of the other college arms. You're correct, but his value is as a guy who can come in and eat innings. The stuff isn't such that projects to be more than an org depth guy - he sits 84-86 mph - so they're not too worried about protecting his arm. Maybe something clicks and he's the next Aaron Wilkerson or something, but that's unlikely - they brought him in because he can fill this role right now, rather than because they see him as a top prospect.

I'm not sure but just based on the number of special events Lowell has, they are up there with the Drive and Sea Dogs for family entertainment. All three are outstanding franchises.

I wasn't trying to write off McAvoy. He just isn't listed as a top 60 prospect so that's why I didn't specifically mention him.

McAvoy's numbers have increased across the board from last year in Portland. Still not great numbers, but he's still improving and that's all you can ask for.
