Castillo is 2 for 2 with a double to start the day. He's now .377/.411/.585 during a 13-game hitting streak.

Chavis just hit his 27th home run, now tied for 1st in MiLB I believe. He must be close to a top 50 prospect by start of 2018. He's a full year (and a little) older than Devers, but is now more than holding his own at AA in an increasingly stable sample size. K rate of ~15% in Portland too in 150 PAs. I was pushing him for #4 early on this year but the AA success impresses me.

Also a higher HR% and lower K% than Devers at AA. (Not to compare the two as prospects, just how impressive a season it is).

Poyner's stats are off the charts. I wonder if he's a low to AA wonder pitcher however due to his weird delivery. It would be nice if it carried over to AAA and did work a little while at the majors until figured out.

Did anyone notice Brentz hit 2 home runs last night? Now with 26 on the season. He's on pace for what 35 home runs in AAA?
Might be time to call that dude up. He's got serious power.

Chavis just hit his 27th home run, now tied for 1st in MiLB I believe. Incredible He is unquestionably a top 50 prospect in the mlb. the question is what is his plan going forward? in my opinion he is blocked at every mlb position except 1b, which he is too short for. My suggestion? Package him in a trade with a couple other fringe prospects for a big tall young power hitting 1b who can hit 30-40 home runs and has an above average OPS.

Great stuff....the kind of stuff you wouldn't get from the box score.

Looks like the Red Sox signed minor league free agent Conrad Gregor to play first base for Salem. Batting 5th for his debut today. Former 4th round pick of the Astros in 2013.

7 shut out innings for Daniel Gonzalez, 2 more hits for Netzer and another double (29) for Baldwin. Greenville is up 6-0 in the bottom of the 8th.

Rusney now has a 13 game hitting streak .313/.350/.493 w/12 HR Hitting less ground balls, striking out less Still doesn't walk ever, but it's encouraging.
Edit: Chavis now has an 11 game hitting streak too lol

Ian also getting a look at a guy that I've been interested in...
Duron tonight: 5IP, 3H, 0ER(1R), 1BB, 2K
Solid numbers on the year: 3.86 ERA, 1.22 WHIP. That said, he's not missing many bats despite velocity that I've seen reported between 92-97 on the year.

Don Mattingly and Jeff Bagwell weren't exactly giants. They worked out ok. No such thing as too short for a position in baseball. As long as we're not talking midgets.

Benny, Mookie, Raffy, Pedey are not giants either. Hanley may be on his downslide...Chavis as a possible DH (at least to see how he hits ML pitching - at some point)?

I absolutely loved this 2017 draft. Each of the scouting scratches from here gives me reason to be even more optimistic.
There could be 4-5 players coming up and being something in the majors out of this draft someday.

A 6' 1b (Mattingly, Bagwell) is not as risky as a 5' 10" one, and Mattingly was a gifted athlete capable of playing SS, while Chavis has shown little so far. A 5' 10" 1b who is not a particularly good athlete is not a great idea. Get him healthy, let him work at becoming a good 3b.
