Maybe it's just me, but when I read Hildemaro Requena's name, I hear the Lion King theme song.

Pantoja starting for Lowell vs Austin Franklin for the Renegades per the teams' respective game stories from yesterday.

MiLB (and the Salem website) has Raudes pitching both games of the DH. I doubt that happens, I listed him in the first game, he might pitch either one.

International signee Jonathan Diaz was added to the DSL roster. If I don't get a Jhonathan Diaz-Jonathan Diaz battery at some point in the next couple years I am demanding my money back.

Was it ever discussed here why Junior Espinoza is on the restricted list?

7 of our top sixty prospects are currently on the GCL roster. That's gonna give us some good young guys coming up in the system for the next couple of years. Do any of them start the year in Greenville next year as opposed to Lowell? There's been a couple of guys that skipped their stops in short season ball that I can think of off the top of my head. Brannen is a candidate to do it and I think they could test Castellanos if his bat continues to succeed in Florida. Suarez, maybe, but doubtful to me.

I'd consider Brannen a near lock to start in Greenville next year based on the history of placement for HS players with his pedigree. That he leads the GCL in OBP certainly helps his case too. Castellanos is more of a wildcard. I think he could skip but thats far from a unanimous school of thought. I feel like its 50/50 at this point, but I'd personally like to see him challenged by that promotion next year. Its also not like there is a top 1B lined up for Greenville that would block him either. It would certainly make the Greenville team more interesting to follow. Among current prospect-eligible players, some guys making the GCL-Greenville jump include Devers, Chavis, and Lorenzo Cedrola (only played in the Lowell playoffs after the GCL season).

GCL Sox drop a close one 9-8. Notable performances (two of which are posted about in the two preceding posts):
Cole Brannen: 2-6, SB(6) Pedro Castellanos: 2-5, 2B(6), BB, RBI David Durden: 3-3, 2RBI, HBP Sidenote: GCL players get hit all the time. If a player's OBP seemingly doesn't make sense based on the BB you see, check the player's HBP.
and because he's rehabbing:
Blake Swihart: 1-4, 2BB, RBI

Conrad Gregor is a 2010 1B/OF with a 6'3'', 220 lb. frame from Carmel, IN who attends Carmel HS. Big strong athletic build, plus strength. Open stance, very good swing, quick hands, very short to ball, shows power, nice extension out front, have to believe he's going to hit and hit with power at the highest levels. Very good athlete, 6.75 in the 60, consistent 4.3's to 1B, hustles, plays both 1B and OF well, absolutely outstanding at 1B. Very good arm strength, likely upper 80's guy off the mound if he pitched. Big guy with tools and serious hitting ability. Early draft prospect. Good student. Aflac All-American. Perfect Game Report on Gregor when he came out of high school in 2010. Was drafted in 40th round out of high school and then redrafted in the fourth three years later. Hitting .303/.429/.510/.939 with 28 XBHs (12 HRs) in 69 games of independent ball. Hopefully he's another good find like Barfield. www.crawfishboxes.com/2013-mlb-draft/2013/6/7/4406944/2013-draft-fourth-round-pick-conrad-gregor-1b-vanderbilt Draft profile of when he came out of college

A few things to note about Gregor: He's coming out of Indy Ball but he's still only 25 which isn't crazy. He was in Houston's system in AA as recently as last year. His triple-slash lines at that level are pretty uninspiring but he did have some success at lower levels and he has some interesting peripherals: His approach numbers have always been fantastic w/ BB-rates >10% and K-rates =< 20% at every stop. The power has varied a bit more throughout his career but has generally put up ISOP around .140. His BAPIP dropped considerably when he reached the mid levels of the minors which caused his overall numbers to drop. I'm not sure whether the batted ball profile supports the drop in BAPIP but I'd guess it does to an extent.

I know he was essentially brought in as organizational depth, much like Nate Freiman and Cody Decker in 2016. However with his dominance is he on track to be a threat to make the big leagues at some point? It's unlikely it would happen with the Sox since Tavarez and Brentz are likely to be promoted before him but from a scouting POV does it seem like he's made advancements or is he just taking advantage of much less experienced pitchers?

Joan Martinez having himself a good Greenville debut. 4 innings, 0 ER, 6 Ks. Kinda weird because I thought he had a reliever-only profile. That's a long stint for a reliever.
Roldani Baldwin also hit his 30th double of the year.

I didn't think Martinez had that kind of stuff but still

I'm loving that Jake Cosart has only 4BB's and 20 K's in his last 15ip spanning 10 appearances. It's a start.
