Only a half serious question, but if Tucker Tubbs doesn't work out as a first baseman, do we go the Williams Jerez/Devon Fisher/Jordan Weems route and make him a pitcher? 10.2 IP this year, 0 ER, 8 K's, .158 batting average against. Obviously a small sample size but fun to track, and he effectively kept the Drive in that game last night

Yeah his scouting report on Soxprospects.com doesn't really correspond with the stats or that excerpt. Hit: Starts square with hands high. Starts on front toe and never leaves ground utilizing toe tap. Short stride, lot of upper body in swing. Long, rotational swing. Hole on the inner half, likes to get arms extended. Pitch recognition a work in progress. Lot of swing and miss. Struggles with identifying secondary offerings. Fringy bat speed

I'm interested to hear how Castellanos looks at Instructs. It's entirely possible that he looks a lot better than when we saw him in Spring Training.

I don't believe this was posted before.

Fringy bat speed The reliability of SP scouting reports is inversely proportional to the time the guy has been in the system (not a criticism, just a hazard of the business). Not surprising at all that a young guy in his first stateside action looks vastly different than before.

Not a great angle, but looks like an ugly swing. Definitely doesn't mesh with the results or the Globe article. I'm going to err more on the side of the results. I'm assuming the video is from ST this year? Maybe he went through some sort of stance change like Brentz. The guy hitting almost .400 doesn't match up with that video.

Very ugly swing indeed, what is happening to his legs? It looked like he would fall on every swing there.

The video and the scouting report are 100 percent mirrors of each other.
In the video once he had two strikes, he moved forward in the batters box.
That is the only thing I saw different from the scouting report.
Hats off to Soxprospects for continued excellence.

The video was published on April 1, so it's definitely from spring training.
If I may say so... that video definitely squares with our scouting report, not what Crockett's telling Alex. That is not a short-to-the-ball swing and he was fooled on all three pitches.
Like I said - I'm not saying Crockett's a liar or anything, but just that if what he's saying is true, Castellanos has done a lot of development during extended.

Very ugly swing indeed, what is happening to his legs? It looked like he would fall on every swing there. Video was posted 4/1/17, so I'm hoping the theory that he's changed something since Spring Training is correct. The swing in the video certainly looks a lot like the swing this site's scouting report describes, although I can see how he could make a lot of contact without much power as it looks like he's slowing the bat down in the zone, presumably to make contact, rather than trying to drive the ball. Of course, it's just a handful of swings from his first Spring Training. Edit: Or, what everyone else just said.

He had a .937 OPS before going 2-5 with a 2B (his 11th XBH) today. Even in the GCL, that swing isn't going to do that. It seems impossible to me that something hasn't changed drastically.

Isn't johnsilver going to see the GCL this month? He's usually good for some good pics and video.
John- if you're listening, a request has been made for some video of Pedro Castellanos

Darwinzon with seven Ks and only one hit - and more importantly, only one walk - through six.

The Drive are tied 0-0 in the eighth. In a major strategic blunder, they hit for Tucker Tubbs, removing him from the game and making him unavailable if the game goes to extra innings.

Trey Ball with another stinker
4.1 IP, 9H, 2HR, 3 ER, 3 BB, only 3K
Trey Ball as a professional pitcher reminds me of a famous ship called the titanic

Darwinzon with seven Ks and only one hit - and more importantly, only one walk - through six. Unlike Dedgar the other night, seems like his stuff is strong enough that with a step forward he could be a legitimate SP prospect. (which as I read the SP profile now is pretty much what they say, too)
