Terrific, gritty win. I don't know what Devers' favorite meal is, but it had better be waiting for him in the clubhouse.

Amazing game by Sale. Clutch ABs from the rookies too. Felt like the type of game we find a way to lose. Nice to see the kiddos pull through and get a big road win.

So - the team is learning how to win (in some cases, despite some questionable Farrellisms and dead bats from Xander and Hanley). The young are leading...Beni and Rafi.
This is good...very good.

Assuming they were the same age, would you trade Judge for Devers? I would. Tough call but I would. Can I have half of next season to answer? I'll stick with Devers.

Good job by Robby Scott keeping this game close with that big strikeout.

2/3 in the Bronx after a tough loss coughed up in game 1 is a nice weekend. Talented and reasonably deep team without any surprising performances, with arguably that of Pomeranz (though not really). Gotta think these guys still have their best *team* baseball ahead of them.

And so we look ahead - Cleveland, St Louis, New York, Cleveland - a pretty important stretch there.

Now that was a fantastic awesome win. I'd rank that 2nd behind the Cleveland/Vazquez game. That makes up for Friday night's fiasco. They stole one back against the Yankees.
Truth of the matter was that Chapman was very overpowering in the 9th (as opposed to his wild 10th) but somehow Devers turned that 103 MPH fastball around and sent it more than 400 feet at 105 MPH! That was tremendously impressive. He should probably be the cleanup guy. Sure shouldn't be Hanley at this point.
Again, absolutely awesome win against these MFYs!

Assuming they were the same age, would you trade Judge for Devers? I would. Tough call but I would. Unless their name is Mike Trout or Bryce Harper, there's no one in the league I trade Devers for. He's going to be a special player for a long, long time.

Assuming they were the same age, would you trade Judge for Devers? I would. Tough call but I would. No It would be a good discussion though wouldn't it. Judge might well be having an anomalous year. 150 strikeouts so far this year and striking out at an incredible rate. His .380 BABIP rate ain't going to continue. Ideally fit for Yankee stadium but Devers has shown such promise and aptitude for hitting in Fenway and under pressure as well. I love examples of outlier data. When a guy hits a 103 mph fastball out opposite field under pressure in Yankee stadiium as a 20 year old I take particular notice. Outlier data can be a real eye opener and even small sample size data can be indicative to me. This is an example. You could put 1000 hitters up in that situation and maybe 2 of them hit it out. This is the kind of data I think we should pay attention to when evaluating prospects. Not in itself but sometimes seeing a guy handle a 98 mph fastball even can be indicative. This is an example of something off the charts.

Coming into today's play, Fangraphs had the RS at 88.3 percent for winning the division. But you watch these two teams play and it certainly doesn't feel that way. Look at the middle of their order compared to ours. Look at their BP compared to ours. Who's the jackass who said the MFY have a better BP than us? Oops.

Still need more from the offense. That game should've been over by the 5th. Way to gut through it but that was far closer than it should've been against a sub-standard starter, buzzard luck or not.

Tiny sample size, but extrapolate Devers stats out to a full season - around 40 HR and 100 RBI.
(I know it's silly - but I think we have a power hitting third baseman...we have a third baseman, period!)

shout out to K-K-Kimbrel for the 4 out save. I remember some folks saying he couldn't do that.

Still need more from the offense. That game should've been over by the 5th. Way to gut through it but that was far closer than it should've been against a sub-standard starter, buzzard luck or not. Hanley is a mess and Xander is totally lost at the plate. I would guess both are injury related, at least it's definitely injury related in Xander's case. Have no idea why they wouldn't DL him and go with Lin/Marrero at SS until Xander is healed. I imagine Dombrowski looks at the lineup and sees that the middle is relatively weak. Obviously Devers should resolve a big part of that issue but I'm guessing he's looking at 1b/dh as the obvious area to upgrade. I like Sam Travis but he only works in a lineup that doesn't have power issues. They will need a better player than Travis at 1b unfortunately. If the rest of the lineup had the thump they needed then Travis is a nice low cost option toward the bottom of the order, but they need more than what Travis can probably give them, and again I say this as somebody that likes Travis' bat.

Nice comeback win which kinda makes up for the brutal loss on Friday night. Sale pitched really well and deserved the win. Why can't they generate at least two runs for him?
Hopefully Farrell remembers after tonight that Devers can hit LHP. Gardner made a nice catch which could have lead two more rbis for Fevers in extra innings.
Not really impressed with Reed so far. He needs to pitch better to earn the 8th inning spot. He should be relegated to the 6th or 7th inning until he can get some clean innings. Workman has earned that spot for the near term.

Can you see Travis being a 12-15 HR bat given time and at bats? He may be one who flourishes once he gets settled in at Boston...but who knows. He is only 23 as well.
