Game so far showing what Farrell has recently said in interviews - he admits this is not a potent high scoring offense and it is on the staring pitching to keep the games within reach. 2 runs yesterday was too much to overcome - can we climb beyond 3 to win this thing? Lots of bad luck hitting so far....but we will have Stroman out of the game soon. In the long run, luck evens out. That's the main reason for slumps and streaks.

Hanley had a 126 OPS+ last year (behind only Papi and Mookie on the team), and you'd rather pay him to play somewhere else? What Hanley needs is some protection in the lineup. Dombrowski should have signed Encarnacion when he had the chance. Hanley has .6 fWAR in almost 3 seasons. I don't see why people don't get other folks frustration with Hanley. All radio is expressing is frustration with a severerly underachieving player, by almost any metric. I get the frustration, and his contract was probably a bad signing (as Price, Porcello, and Sandoval were probably bad signings and Thornburg a bad trade). But Hanley's a good hitter, he just needs consistent starts and some lineup protection. Hanley was injured for a lot of his first year with the sox, and last year put up a 2.8 WAR as a first baseman (that will probably end up being better than Moreland this year).

Great play by Devers there to save a run and great job by Pomeranz getting out of it.

Agree on the contract, and all FA contracts are probably not going to be great value. I guess I just think, being a game day thread, that some guys are going to come down on him pretty hard, and it is to be expected. I am in that camp also, but i do want to see him succeed. He has always been enigmatic, to a certain extent.

Can't believe Holt is still getting starts That's what happens when Pedroia and JBJ are on the DL. I'd rather see Young out there, at least he gives you a chance at a home run in these close games

So this story is a bit longish and only relates to this game in a small way....
I think I've just won at life.
The games in this losing streak have been hard to watch and have been hard to watch starting early. Years ago I stopped watching games that upset me because the team was playing poorly. I'm happier doing other things than watching the baseball team I love play poorly. So ive been turning these recent games off in the first couple of innings. I am slightly chagrined to admit that I turned this game off in the second inning when they went down by two. Some people might say that's the text book definition of a fair weather fan but I've been rooting for the Red Sox for over 40 years now and I don't feel any need to justify or explain my fandom to anyone. I love this team and I simply don't enjoy seeing them lose.
So, tonight my wife comes downstairs and I'm watching something else and strumming on a guitar just fooling around and she says, "Can't we watch the game? I've really missed baseball in the last few days. Just so you know I was watching upstairs and it's tied at two right now".
So two things come to mind, first I've won at life because of her and how great she is in about 30 different ways. Then second, I hope Mookie was part of the runs they scored because the Red Sox really need him to get going.
But really, I've won at life. Apologies if this seems sappy.

Two huge jams Pomeranz has weaseled out of. If they get out of this funk and survive the last fifth of the season he'd be my #2 starter in the playoffs unless Price suddenly returns and is clearly in form.

Drew hasn't had his best command, yet still holding his own on the road. He's has been the most improved Sox during the season. Great to see.

I've found myself doing the same thing lately. I didn't give up yesterday or today because they're both very winnable games, but I definitely turned off the previous 3 games.

One would hope that Price and Porcello would agree with you and put their egos in check for the good of the team. Simply, 2017 Pomeranz is much better than either of them.

Vazquez' hitting is getting hard to ignore. Even more hard to ignore! Not even sure how he got a bat on that pitch, let alone hit the ball that far.
