33.3% GB rate in this game, which is pretty bad. I stand corrected. Maybe it's just the bad Rays lineup coming to the aid of Porcello. It looks really impressive because his pitch count is so low. That's a rarity lately.

He would of had a couple go off the wall. He's pumping in strikes and getting ground balls all over like it's 2016 redux. 33.3% GB rate in this game, which is pretty bad. His xFIP for this game is 4.38, higher than his season average. he hasn't given up a run. His xFIP can't be 4.38

I think if I were an opposing manager, I'd play the 3B in shallow right center field when Vazquez was up. Sorry JimEd, with that grounder to 3b by Vazquez, you just flunked your audition to manage the Rays. However, if you agree Holt is not the current best option to start at 2b , the Boston baseball team is currently in need of a managerial upgrade. Are you interested?

The difference between this game and every other game is the BABIP and HR/FB%. The 100% LOB% is pretty sweet too and that also affects it.

I'm sure it's better than my current job. I'm in.

Great play by Holt after I just busted on him. Who doesn't know how the reverse jinx works?!

Maybe you guys already knew this, but i'll throw out this Tweet i read from Richard Justice today on Porcello: "Sox have scored 0 runs 10 times while he was in the game. 1-2 runs 7 other times". (sorry, don't have the actual Tweet) I know Porcello hasn't pitched that well, this year, but that's really bad when the Sox ONLY scored no more then 1-2 runs in 17 starts. You got me thinking on what I recalled his support was, last season, just quickly looking at Runs scored by Sox in his 33 2016 starts... ... just eye-balling, quickly, but 24 of his 33 starts the Sox scored at least 5 runs , and another 4 starts where Sox scored 4 runs. www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.fcgi?id=porceri01&t=p&year=2016

Did the Rays put Faria in the bullpen to keep his innings down this year?

I guess I don't understand why this would be a relevant metric, along with not understanding what it means. I am moving on. It's relevant because it tries to eliminate luck from performance. Just like when he gives up 5 soft ground ball hits in an inning and a 330 foot HR, he's not as bad as it looks on the scoreboard either.

I'm of the opinion that Porcello hasn't been that bad this year (bad luck and worse defense than a year ago), but they need him to be better to make some noise in the playoffs.
Tonight's a positive development.

My skull = thick as a brick. i always thought you had to at least give up a run for that to be anything but 0.00. I still don't think very much of it.

Tonight's a positive development. He's had cruddy run support, but he has given up 35 bombs this year. That's ten more than his second most given up.

Could have been worse. Kimbrel for the 9th now. If he can pitch.
