I get what you're saying, but that has always been a big problem for me. It SHOULD not matter where the catcher is set-up. A strike is suppose to be called a strike regardless where the catcher is set up . We, well myself, may never see it, but Robo umps are coming for balls & strikes. I've got no argument with that. Absolutely should be called a strike. But almost never is. Is your username a Trajan Langdon reference?

Where's the Yankee trainer? Sanchez was rocked to his heels.
Well, at least Buxton was able to get that runner in from 3rd with lees the 2 outs, this time.

This game was set by MLB in the first inning when Santana had Grigoriuos Kd and they called it ball 3. Manfred will not allow NYY to lose here. It’s why they are [ostensibly - ha ha ha ] playing in primetime vs. Cleveland instead of Houston, with the fifth largest tv market in the nation being relegated to a day game. Just so transparent.

The Yankees are winning this game. I've never been more sure of anything in my life. The Twins suck and the 5th wild card is stupid.

Twins pitchers are not hitting their spots. Meatball city for the Yankees.

It’s why they are [ostensibly - ha ha ha ] playing in primetime vs. Cleveland instead of Houston, with the fifth largest tv market in the nation being relegated to a day game. Just so transparent. The fact of the matter is that if they had rung up the Grigorious, Santana still would have given up a bunch of runs. It ultimately wouldn't have mattered. It's not like he recovered in the 2nd innings and threw up a bunch of zeroes. And Berrios was no better. The bottom line is that there was no way in hell the Twins were ever actually going to win this game. If they were serious about winning it, they would have cashed in those 4th and 5th runs in the 1st inning and Santana would have set the tone instead of depending on a borderline call by an umpire to save his bacon. The Twins' record against the Yankees is atrocious over the past 15 years, and although Minnesota is quickly improving, they're no match, especially at Yankee Stadium, for the Yankees, who are a really, really good team, good enough to upset Cleveland in my opinion.

Yankees looking like a very tough out, they're solid everywhere with a dangerous offense and a stupid bullpen (Robertson is insane). Not to mention the incredible job by the umps they seem to get daily.

Its really pretty outrageous how they seem to get the calls all the time but I don't expect that to change anytime soon with Manfred as commissioner.

The Yankees didn't win the game last night because of the umpiring. They won because their sixth best pitcher is better than the Twins best one.

If you’re going to set up off of the plate like Castro did, you won’t get the corner calls and much as you would sitting directly behind the plate. The trade off is that batters will hear ge catcher moving and are more likely to think the pitch is a ball. It didn’t work in the Twins favor.
Go Tito.

It easily can decide a closer game. It can, and Gregorius should've struck out in the first. But the strike zone was tight last night for both sides. The difference was that the Yankees pitchers missed bats. Specific criticisms of umps is fine, but the OMG THE UMPS IS BIASED stuff gets tiring, especially in a non-competitive game like that where the Twins did absolutely zero after the top of the first. The idea that the Yankees won that game because of the umpiring is delusional. EDIT: TL;DR: The ump stuff is whining, the better team won.

Allowing David Robertson to breeze through 3 innings is unforgivable

Allowing David Robertson to breeze through 3 innings is unforgivable Indeed. The Twins (not the umpires) were letting him live two inches off the plate. Also, their backup centerfielder managing to miss first base entirely was a pretty amazing gaffe. ----- Moving on to tonight - Greinke vs. Gray is something I'm pretty hyped for.

I said from the beginning the Twins had zero chance of winning but people are just tired of the fact the umps seem to help out the Yanks pretty consistently. Both of these things can be true.

I understand complaining about umpiring in the heat of the moment, but I find the Yankees umpire conspiracy in the same vein as "9/11 was an inside job."

If Fangraphs' strike zone chart for the game is to be believed, Twins pitchers had 5 strikes called balls, while Yakees pitchers had 13. As much as I truly would like to, I'm really not seeing a pro-Yankees bias there.
