My point is that Margot could have helped the Sox for 900+ games (assuming no contract extensions), while Kimbrel will max out at about 20. And the irony is that Kimbrel will probably make more money over those games. Unless you move Mookie Betts back to second base or trade JBJ (who might be marginally better than Margot the next three years by the way). There's no where to put Margot. He was always a asset to trade, it was just who and when you were going to trade him. In a post above, I talked about saving Margot to leave open the possibility of trading Bradley for a solid 2-3 starter or prospects. Margot would give you a few more cheap years of a quality center fielder than Bradley offers at this point. And he pretty much put up the same WAR as Bradley this year (as a 22 yr old rookie). Moncada should have been kept to replace Pedroia as he declines.

I got an idea how about we stop talking about players who are no longer here and talk about who's here or who could be here. My god. Margot - Moncada and Kopech aren't walking thru that door.
Funny how Anderson Espinoza and Guerra fell off the list of people we cry about being gone.

JBJ also missed the equivalent of a month in the season with all the time missed. Again, Margot isn't JBJ in terms of value. Right now JBJ is better. Moncada's talent and tools are a waste at second base, especially his plus arm strength.

JBJ was also screwed because he got hurt at the very beginning of two hot streaks. If his injuries were timed differently, he would have had a completely different looking season overall.

How about Chavis, Mata, Ockimey, and Chatham for Felipe Rivero. Espinoza was a 1 for 1 trade. And Guerra (now a 21 yr old and in AA) was one piece in a 4 for 1 trade that included Margot, Asuaje, and Allen. This whole discussion started because someone asked why Dombrowski should be ousted along with Farrell.

Margot was injured for part of the year too, so he and JBJ actually played about the same number of games with similar number of ABs.

Folks, this is not the place to be going over the Sale and Kimbrel trades again for the millionth time. If you feel the need to do so or to evaluate Domborowski's tenure in general, I would direct you to this thread. Further off-topic posts will be deleted, and absent any other discussion of the Red Sox/Astros ALDS specifically, this thread will be moved to the gameday thread archives in a few days. Thanks.
