Good grief. Three years of a gold-glove caliber CF/3-WAR player for a 20-y/o pitching prospect with less than 15 innings in AA.
Just stop, please.

Unfortunately the Astros most likely would not do this deal. Whitley is a top 30 prospect in the game. If the tigers couldn’t get Houston to get rid of Whitley for Verlander i doubt he will be available. Also, the Astros don’t have a need for JBJ as they have enough outfield depth. Good proposal though.

That's a rebuilding type trade, not a win now move. Only way that makes sense is if you turn around and flip the guy.

Not a bad proposal at all. But Houston does not need jbj.
But before every one bashes the idea of jbj getting traded for prospects remember we are in a unique situation. We have a full roster outside of a whole at 1b. Made up of young kids mostly. Our farm is weak. Jbj wouldn't fetch back the corner infielder we desire alone and his best value in a return alone is to get back prospects or one really good one. We can put benny in cf. But a big bat for lf and make the farm stronger and the lineup stronger by trading jbj.

I think you need to look at how good Whitley is and what scouts say about his potential. Whitley is a 20-y/o who will start next year in AA. He’s Michael Kopech pre-trade. He’s probably two full seasons away from any meaningful contribution. This is roughly Eaton-Giolito without any supporting players, and putting the Sox in the rebuilder’s position. I’m certainly more towards the prospect-hoarding side, as most on here could tell you, but this move makes no sense. It creates a gaping OF hole on a win-now team, for the riskiest type of prospect, who’s just barely had a taste above the high minors. If the Sox decide they want to trade JBJ, they’d probably need to sign Lorenzo Cain, and they’d need to get back more than just a single 25-40 range prospect (add a couple of lottery arms, like the Yankees got for McCann). And they’d be selling low on JBJ. In theory, under different circumstances, with some tweaking, maybe. But in the current context, that’s a negatory, Ghost Rider.

Even getting beyond the absurdity of dmaineah's monthly Bradley trade proposals, the Astros have George Springer.
