Domingo Santana 6-5, 220lb Born: August 5, 1992 (Age: 25-174d) WAR 3.0 BA .278 HR 30 RBI 85 SB 15 OBP .371 SLG .505 OPS .875 OPS+ 126 For whatever reason, the Brew Crew seems to be fine with moving Santana: www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/01/brewers-trade-rumors-domingo-santana-keon-broxton.html Yes they are looking for starters. I would think after the two upgrades the Brewers have made yesterday, that they may have a possible opening for us. Santana is MUCH cheaper, MUCH younger, and less of a deficit in the outfield than one JDM. I would prefer JDM, but if Boras and JDM are not going to budge from their, IMO, crazy demands....maybe Santana could fit in real well and give us 75 to 80% of one JDM. Ideas???

It would cost the Sox Eduardo Rodriguez.
I'm not sold on Santana. He can't play the outfield (doesn't have a position) and he strikes out a ton too.
I'd much rather go after a Braun for a lot less if we are talking about Brewers outfielders.

I'd think it would be really expensive which probably means someone like ERod plus prospects. He is under control through 2021.

Let me be real clear. In a perfect world we would sign Martinez for 5 years at a rate of no more than $25 mill (or less), but there is a limit to how far DD goes...and there should be! Extending are own players is hugely important, if we are going to continue to be competitive.
If DD or anyone on this board is not thinking of alternatives, you are not being realistic.
Yes Santana may be costly. At 25 years old, with a lot of control, and a very productive season behind him, Santana is worth thinking about and not being closed minded about.
SIGN JDM, but how far is too far? Think creatively. We could send Porcello to Milwaukee, and sign Arrieta. If DD is as good as most people think, he is several hundred steps ahead of us. Santana is an idea. I do know one thing, we need a power bat.
