Yeah, depth is important. But do we really need another AAA outfielder?? Taveras, Castillo, Barfield, Mars, Sturgeon, Travis, Lin, and Selsky are all already going to see time in Pawtucket’s outfield.

mars & sturgeon ? starting @ portland I’m going with guys that could conceivably see time there during the year. I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see a mid-season promotion for either of them. Or even one of them to start the year there.

Probably a little more than we needed another utility player without options. Not much to complain about here. Flores looks like he can hit at AAA and maybe just needed longer to figure things out.

I’m starting to see other minor league teams announce their 2018 opening day rosters. Has there regularly been a time that the Sox affiliates release theirs?
On another note, are there any aggressive promotions like Bryan Mata to Greenville that we are going to see this year?

Minor league camp breaks on April 1, so we should know shortly thereafter. The teams usually formally announce their rosters a day or two prior to opening day.

I haven't seen this reported, but old friend Chris Marrero signed with the Sox on February 22nd.

I haven't seen this reported, but old friend Chris Marrero signed with the Sox on February 22nd. Not the case. The transaction says "assigned to the Boston Red Sox," which is the language they use when a player in the minors is called up for an MLB spring training game. 2/22 last year was the NU/BC doubleheader, and so my guess is that whoever was entering that transaction so that they could use him in the box entered the wrong year, and it didn't show up until that date actually came. He's not in camp and not on the roster, so in any case, he's not with the org.

I moved the Ramon Flores stuff here because I'm fairly certain he's not a PTBNL for Marrero, and because it opened a discussion that belongs here anyway.

Anyone heard any more about the reported trade of Ramon Flores from the DBacks to the Sox? The Cotillo tweet has been the only report that I have seen and nothing further.

Glancing over the minor league rosters and I came across Jeff Driskel. He is currently the backup QB for the Cincinnati Bengals. I know he signed a contract back in 2013, but why is he on the roster now?

Weird. Wasn't in camp or anything. Probably has to do with reserve lists.
Anyway, we had it projected but Hill posted he's going to Salem.

Cole Brannen is going to Greenville (as expected).
It looks like minor league camp broke today so rosters and a few cuts should be coming shortly.

Procyshen to Portland.
At this point I can swipe "Procyshen" in SwiftKey, so that's nice.
