Re Lin vs. Holt as the starter with X out: don't think that because Holt was in MLB and Lin was in AAA that it follows that they think Holt is the better backup skill infielder, let alone the better backup SS. They did it that way primarily because trading Holt to make room for Lin might upgrade the roster a little, but it would seriously damage organizational depth, the sort of depth they're drawing on right now.
(Two other factors that made that decision even more of a no-brainer: Holt is a very good defensive OFer, something they don't otherwise have on the bench, and it's not yet a foregone conclusion that Lin is just a bench player; having him play every day keeps open the small window of possibility that he's a second division starter or even better. Keep in mind that he's been using the new swing for just a year.)
I expect Lin to get the bulk of the starts with Xander out.
BTW, Devers, in this tiny sample so far, has a +2 DRS in 78 innings, the equivalent of +24 to +43 on the year. Total Zone also has him as +2. If you want to go to UZR for a third opinion, it has him at +56/150. He's always looked to me like a poor man's Adrian Beltre, making plays far to his left look easy via quick reads and surprising quickness.

"Tzu-Wei Lin would do a very solid job if he ends up the starter at short for a couple weeks" is not a thing I ever thought I'd think one year ago. The step forward he made last year was pretty immense. Without a doubt. I remember following this guy 2 seasons ago and he was really only organizational depth at best, and he had a ton of time in the system by that point.

Most quick middle infielders can transition well to the outfield.

Soon enough!
Today was apparently the morning for "can you get this to me by 10:00" requests at the real job.
