Happy Easter to all the Greeks in the crowd, and those of us married to one. It's going to be a real feast today!

I'll venture a guess that Requena starts game 2 for Salem, but again, just a guess

Pomeranz with a rehab start on the same day Rodriguez starts for the Sox. I saw that Rodriguez was "dominant" during some sort of session he threw recently, but I am unsure as to what exactly that session was ? Was there a detailed report on it somewhere ? A bullpen session ? A simulated game ?

I'll venture a guess that Requena starts game 2 for Salem, but again, just a guess I thought Tanner Houck was scheduelled for today. They got rained out yesterday. They don't have an off day until 3/23, so the smarter move is to have game 2 of a doubleheader be the bullpen game rather than have a regular 9-inning game be the bullpen game in 4 days.

Devil’s advocate for Pomeranz’s day: from what I saw early in the game the ump had a very tight strike zone.

Today's Cup of Coffee had me actually lol'ing at work with the back to back to back jabs at the new minor league extra innings rules. Well done.

Wow, it hadn't really occurred to me that in minor league doubleheaders, the extra man would come on starting in the 8th. What an abomination.
IMO, play 3 extra innings and call it a tie after that. I guess you might introduce a certain amount of "playing for the tie" with that, but in the minors, I'm not so sure you would.

Yeah, I agree that you wouldn't see that in the minors where the incentives are already different.
The biggest issue I have with it is that MLB loves taking money from merchandising and ticket sales and promotions from the minor leagues but isn't willing to treat its fans as worthy of real baseball. The difference between doing this in the Carolina League as opposed to the GCL is all those people who pay to see games. Literally nobody other than the players care if the GCL Marlins or DSL Nationals win their games. Lots of people care whether the Kannapolis Intimidators do, and they are the people who pay money to see baseball. And they deserve not to have the outcome of the game they paid money to decided by such nonsense. Charlotte, Indianapolis, and Columbus all averaged over 9,000 fans per game. Some of those are fans of major league baseball, and some enjoy the fact that baseball is played outdoors in the summertime, but lots of them care about the outcome and root for their local team. This rule spits in their face.
Now, you could argue that ties aren't great for the paying fan either, but at least there's a point to them. If long extra-inning games in the minors are counterproductive both to player development and to the minor league affiliates being able to pay their bills, their fans will be able to accept and appreciate that. Some may not like it, but calling a game a tie after it's no longer productive to continue using the rules of baseball to play baseball is a lot more respectful to those fans than whatever the hell that was that happened yesterday.
