I mean, we're here discussing PTBNLs, when really we should be talking about the expected return for a player like Elias. Not all PTBNLs are created equal, and frankly, let's consider that PTBNLs probably don't do much worse as a group than other minor league player returns do outside of prospect hauls for established stars.
FWIW, PFF, Ysla wasn't a PTBNL.

Eh, Marco Hernandez was the PTBNL for Doubront, so not necessarily. It won't be a top 100 guy, but that doesn't mean the PTBNL will be useless. That's the only one of significance that I can think of in the last 40 years.(not including recent draft picks that used to have to be traded that way or players on the DL like RDLR) He was rated 17th here when acquired. Hope you're right. Usually, PTBNL or cash is equivalent to a bucket of practice balls. Yeison Coca was a PTBNL in the Shaw/Dubon/Pennington/Thornburg trade, and he has the upside to be a switch-hitting starting shortstop in the MLB.

Tough question but how many PTBNL's are we owed currently. I think we have one coming in for Brentz and now one for Elias. I dont think we owe any the other way?

Brentz was for cash. Just Elias which may not even be a PTBNL.

Was Flores the PTBNL for Marrero? Was that ever sorted out officially?

Carpenter and Kurcz, just the "significant" return we were promised from Larry Lucchino. Thanks Larry (where are the italics when I need them!).

The most significant PTBNL in Sox history was a work of fiction.
The Sox acquired minor league SS Mario Guerrero from the Yankees on June 30, 1972. He was announced as the PTBNL in the disastrous Sparky Lyle for Danny Cater trade.
Which took everyone by surprise, as there had been no PTBNL in that trade. No mention at all.
It was widely thought that the Sox had purchased Guerrero and that the Yankees had agreed to retroactively make him a PTBNL because ... well, Cater at the time was hitting .207 / .248 / .330 in 165 PA and Lyle had 15 saves in 17 chances (plus a 2-1 record) with a 1.05 ERA.

Wow. I just looked at this thread for the first time because I thought it was a bump from when he was traded to Boston.

Brentz was for cash. Just Elias which may not even be a PTBNL. Will Woodward mentioned in the Minor Notes the the Elias trade was for cash. So, no PTBNL?

Most likely a better chance of being struck by lightning. Don't think Seattle was giving up the next Derek Lowe or Jason Varitek.

Heathcliff Slocumb..... deal of the century. Unless you want to count the Danny Ainge deal with Brookyn for their future.

Might be the Elias return here MLB Pipeline actually has him as their #11 overall prospect. Excellent hitting skills, and old for a prospect. Has gone through some troubles in recent years. Corner outfield profile with a small amount of experience at first.
