They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

Team loses 2 games and people are losing enthusiasm for the game day thread already. 6 hours old and no posts.

I like the match ups... particularly if Donaldson is still out.

The only thing Im concerned about is the offense. The offense either finds a way to score 7+ runs a game or they can barely score 2 runs a game. Can't be wasting anymore Chris Sale starts. It drives me nuts when that happens.

It drives me nuts when that happens. I think theres a bit of recency bias going on here. The Sox have only scored 2 or fewer runs in 4 games this year, with two of those occurrences in the last two games. Is there a team in baseball that doesn't sometimes run up against good pitching and have a hard time scoring? The Yankees for example have scored 2 or fewer runs 3 times this year, and the Astros have scored 2 or fewer runs 8 times this year. Our offense is not a cause for concern right now IMO.

A healthy Bogaerts will definitely lengthen or stretch out the lineup so we won't see Nunez batting 5th again.
A healthy Pedroia is also an offensive upgrade - if he's completely healthy. It would be hard for him not to be a defensive upgrade at 2b, and depending how healthy he comes back, he could be a major upgrade defensively.

Just seems like it's a feast or famine offense. It's nice while it's going, but it's hard to watch when it's not. Xander returning should help from the short stop side, but the catching position has been a black hole all year.

Yeah I mean I guess my response to that is...its not....certainly not relative to other MLB teams in existence. All teams sometimes get shut down by opposing pitchers. They went on a run of games where they scored at least 6 runs in 11 of 12 games (scoring 3 in the other). Thats pretty ridiculous. If you think this is a feast or famine offense you should take a peek at other offenses around the league that are more famine than feast.

Yeah, you're talking like it's sustainable for an offense to score 5 or more runs every single game or something. This is one of the 2 or 3 best offenses in the league so far. If it hasn't been good enough for you, you have completely unrealistic expectations. "They're usually awesome but they had a couple games in which opposing pitchers shut them down" just isn't a realistic complaint and probably even borders on trolling in how completely off-base it is.

Leon and Holt at 8 and 9 really shortens the lineup.

We will see how good this offense is over the course of a season overall. I have a feeling there will be a lot of low scoring games where the offense can't hit a beach ball.
I will certainly be counting how many games they score 3 or fewer runs this season and comparing it to the rest of the league.

Let's just start with the division: Boston: 7 games out of 21 NYY: 5 games out of 21 (probably the best offense in baseball) Baltimore: 16 games out of 23 TB: 9 games out of 21 Toronto: 9 games out of 21 Do we need to do this for all 30 teams before you get it?

Red Sox lose two games in a row and the gloom and doom comes back. What a time to be a fan.

It's not surprising that they are among the best in the division. Outside of Toronto and New York, the division is garbage. I want to see how they rank versus Houston, Cleveland, and New York at the end of the year.

Worst Devers play of the year so far. Take the guarenteed out at second Devers.

Artificial turf should be banned. What a terrible hop that was. Porcello has given up 18 ground balls this inning.

It's artificial turf with the cancer causing rubber thrown all over it. And that ball that Devers tried to field bounced at least a foot higher than it should have because it hit the lip of the dirt.

Can someone explain how those 3 runs are earned? The 2nd and 3rd should be Unearned no? If devers threw that ball to 1st there would have been 3 outs before the last 2 runs scored
