That's a lovely group of starters today.

Cole Brannen is in a really deep slump. He struck out in the first and he's now 2 for 27 in his last nine, without an extra base hit.
It's interesting that they gave aggressive assignments to all of their top five 2017 picks: the three college guys (Houck, Netzer, and Thompson) all to Salem, and two HS players (Brannen and Scherff) to Greenville.

It's actually Mata this morning.
Drive activated Rusconi and (presumably) paper moved Reyes to Lowell. EDIT: Actually, was yesterday.

Mata turns 19 today. Still so young for high-A.

MiLB had Mata as the starter. The recap from the Salem website said Raudes. I went with the latter sine they are usually WAY more accurate. Salem's pitchers on MiLB are very unreliable.

Scherff is probably done for the day. First good start of the season for him: 5IP 2H 0ER 1BB 4K

As I've suggested too. pwned on my own tactics. Well played, sir. FWIW, I went with milb because it had been TBA through yesterday. I'd put an email in to their media guy to see if he knew what was up because I'm going to catch one or two of this weekend's games. Thought I was getting Raudes tomorrow night. We'll see what they do instead.

6 hours until Beeks pitches. How many K's does he have already? Never been as excited for a Sox pitching prospect starts since Espinoza was in Greenville. Could he be our Josh Harder?

The index finger on the thumbs up sticks out a fair amount... is he trying to finger gun but thought he'd get in trouble from the PC crowd?

Hader was a consensus top 40 prospect entering 2017, and MLB.com even had him in its top 100 the previous year. There's a distinct difference in pedigree there. The index finger on the thumbs up sticks out a fair amount... is he trying to finger gun but thought he'd get in trouble from the PC crowd? What is this referring to?

Hader was kind of an out-of-nowhere guy whose stuff took a step forward too, though. Three seasons earlier he was the secondary prospect in a trade for Bud Norris. Which, frankly, should motivate anyone to throw 10 miles an hour harder. Imagine that level of insult.

Chris - I just noticed after over a decade here (Im sure its changed in that time) that the thumbs up/like comment icon is kind of weird.

Jalen Christopher Beeks with a stinker so far: Just 6 Ks through 4 innings. His stats are crumbling across the board. Sad! He struck out Clint Frazier twice lmao

3K through 3IP for Beeks, solo HR.. so not up to his nearly 2k/IP rate this year.
Till I check back a few minutes later, and he struck out the next 4 batters, including two swinging.
Edit: I didn't refresh the page, which is why it is similar to above.
8k/6IP for Beeks, 1ER. ERA going up and K/9 going down. Ha.

I like Beeks chances of being good. Hard to fake his numbers the past couple of years.

What is happening here with Beeks? What is he striking everyone out with? The cut-fastball?

Portland saw Justus Sheffield's last Double-A start the other day, and unless he's kept back a day then Pawtucket will see his Triple-A debut on Sunday.

"Jalen Christopher Beeks with a stinker so far: Just 6 Ks through 4 innings."
Yeah. And only 9 thru 6.2 innings. PLUS, he walked one. AND, gave up 2 runs ! One of which actually left the yard !!!It's obvious he's slipping. I think the Sox should try to flip him for a lottery pick...
