They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

Lol Colon is still starting in this league. Unbelievable.
Based on the talent and pitching matchups, I like games 1, 2, and 4 of this series. Game 3 is a coin flip between Eduardo and Hammels these days.
The Sox should take at least 3 games in this series or it's kind of a disappointment, to be frank.

For whatever it's worth, some outlets are still showing Sunday as TBD, as it was originally Martin Perez's turn. The only other semi-obvious choice would be Yovani Gallardo, who is scheduled for that day for Round Rock, and who I'm guessing would be Red Sox fans choice. Austin Bibens-Dirkx is probably the best minor league depth option they have and he pitched yesterday.

In the eyes of a Ranger, the unsuspecting stranger Had better know the truth of wrong from right. Now that was some great TV!

As confident as I am in this Red Sox team, and inspired by their amazing 22-8 record, this long road trip has me on the edge of my seat with fingers crossed and all superstitions met. Because while it's still early, peeforming well for these 3 series feels important. We are still waiting for this team to settle in and click. For example, Beni, catchers, Nunez, JBJ, Swihart, ERod, Smith, Barnes, Hembree; baserunning, defense, all have so much more to offer. So much that when this wonderful team starts rolling again it will be at the juggernaught level, able to beat any team. But it seems to still be figuring things out on so many levels. I hope they figure it out this trip and establish distance in the ALE. Until then, pins and needles.

The Yankees took a huge blow in losing Montgomery recently, but they're probably still better than most of the American League and can beat them with their offense alone. My best advice is, buckle in.

People are looking at the Yankees like they're going to go 11-1 every 12 games. The way I look at it, it's amazing that the Red Sox who have been hovering around .500 over that time, they're still 2 games up on a team that has gone 11-1 in their last 12. They'll come back to earth also.

They'll come back to earth also. They will, but it does suck to see a 7.5 game lead disappear so quickly - that was a substantial lead. Truthfully I don't judge the Yankees on 9-1 anymore that I'd really judge the Sox on 17-2. When all is said and done I'd expect the Yankees to wind up in the 95 - 100 win bracket, just like the Red Sox. It will come down to which team is on the upper end of that range versus which one winds up on the lower end of that range. I really would hate to see the Sox wind up in that Wild Card with the best case scenario that they have to spend Chris Sale in the playoff game at Fenway to advance and the worst case scenario that the Sox get knocked off by an 85 win team and don't even make the ALDS. Let that happen to the Yankees. Let them spend Severino - and at least this year they wouldn't get the automatic victory of playing the Washington Generals (the Twinkies).

The point is really, the Yankees are here and they're not going away. It's going to be a close race all year, unless major injuries happen to one side or another.

However, as stated above, expected offense from Beni, Bradley, Devers and a catcher and Pedey make this offense pretty unstoppable. And pitching to expectations from this rotation would be unhittable. This and some other expected improvements would earn them a division threepeat with room to spare.

I don't know what happened to Benintendi since leaving Fort Myers, need him to turn it around. The catchers have both been worth -0.4 fWAR. Leon has put up -37 WRC+ (lol) and Vazquez just 28 WRC+. That's gotta improve just on inertia right?

By time the Yankees "cool off" the Sox might be looking up at them in the standings. Like I said both teams will be in mid to upper 90s in victories if not higher. The Yankees aren't a fluke or some 85 - 90 win team. They're an excellent team too.

And pitching to expectations from this rotation would be unhittable. This and some other expected improvements would earn them a division threepeat with room to spare. It's a strong offense, but I wouldn't call it unstoppable. Sean Manaea certainly was able to stop it altogether. The Sox should be average or above offensively in 7 spots out of 9 in the lineup, but those bottom two spots between JBJ and the catchers have been black holes. It's a reason why the guy leading the league in HRs doesn't have way more RBIs than he does. JBJ and Vazquez aren't getting on base ahead of Betts. They'll hit better but they're still going to be well below average. Ultimately the Yankees will score more runs. The question is how much better will the Sox pitching be? Enough to offset the offense differential? Perhaps. We'll find out, but I doubt the Sox repeat with room to spare - more likely if they do win it'll be by a razor thin margin.

I think this is kind of a big start for Price, the numbers seem to be trending down the last couple of starts. Hope he really has a good start today.

What a player Xander is turning into. This new approach has probably earned him an extra 100 million dollars at least.

Devers needed to make contact there and struck out. That would have scored the run.

It would be nice if the starters could give the offense a couple clean innings every once in awhile.
