Geeze what a tough series. How did the Yankees manage to take 5 out of 7 from these guys?

I can’t believe Pomeranz wasn’t DL’d before the game. He’d get lit up in AAA right now. This will be like batting practice for Houston.

Fun things you can discover on Fangraphs when you're desperately searching any positive signs on Pomeranz: he's throw 77 sinkers this season, which have produced nine singles, three doubles, two home runs, and zero ground balls. I'm no Brian Bannister, but it doesn't seem like a pitch he should throw, ever. Also the velo is down and he's not getting swings and misses on anything, so pitch selection may be the least of his worries anyway.

I'm officially concerned about Mookie This is what you people get for comparing him to Trout.

Houston was in excellent position to win five or six of the games they lost but the Yankee's 10th man murdered the Astros bullpen which suddenly became incapable of throwing strikes even though they had not shown any such tendency all year.

Stro's have their B team line up for this game. Would really like to see 6 IP from Pomeranz with no more than 3 runs.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Astros cheating with their pitchers? I mean, Verlander revives career, Gerrit Cole turns into a TOR starter, and Charlie Morton....well....he was a -.5 bWAR pitcher for the the friggin 9 years prior to becoming an Astro and suddenly turned into a mid 90's flamethrower who will get CY Young votes.
Personally, I think when an opposing pitcher has the temerity to call out an organization, granted we are talking about Trevor Bauer, there is reasonable concern.
We got some payback to deal with here. Take them down.

Sure. But to the degree that the pitchers are pitching well...is it normal for their 4 startersin this series to all be have K rates above 10 per 9 innings pitched. Team ERA is almost a full run better than that next best (Sox). I am really skeptical that this is true talent stuff.

They just said on the pregame show that Swihart is going to play 2B tonight. There was a late scratch by Pedey.

LF A. Benintendi (L) SS Xander Bogaerts (R) 1B Mitch Moreland (L) DH J.D. Martinez (R) 3B Rafael Devers (L) 2B Brock Holt (L) C Sandy Leon (S) CF Jackie Bradley (L) RF Blake Swihart (S)
Interesting that they're going with Blake in right at Fenway, instead of Swihart/Beni/Bradley. Wonder if it has to do with Astros having a heavy RHH, pull lineup.

“Left knee soreness” keeping Pedroia on the bench.

The way things are going they may need to DL Mookie if it doesn't look like he's going to be able to play in Houston. I don't think they should rush him and they can retroactively back it up to the last game he played. But they may need bench help. NESN just said Pedey's scratch was because of left knee soreness.

Pomeranz's velocity is finally sitting in the low 90's.
