They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). I have no problem seeing Mike Trout having a .000/1.000/.000 line for this series.

Angels have 11 players on the DL (15 a week ago). Unfortunately, we won't see Ohtani.

No idea what that means for Thursday. It would be short rest for Beeks, who picked Sunday. They could move Rodriguez up to Thursday (it would be his regular rest because of yesterday's off day) and use Beeks on Friday against NY.

Or start Velazquez or Johnson

Maybe, thought it's now been awhile since either was really stretched out. Using both for three innings apiece wouldn't be a bad idea at all though.

Wow, Wright is a huge loss for this team right now. It explains his rough outing last time out.
I personally think they'll move Porcello and Sale up one day with the off day yesterday and start Beeks thereafter.

I think they play the Yankees after the Angels though, so it's a tough call. Not sure you want Beeks facing the Yankees lineup.

Not sure you want Beeks facing the Yankees lineup. Since Justin Haley was called up, wouldn't the assumption be that he'll take the next start? Meh, I hope not. I like Philsbosoxfan's idea also with the Yankees coming up. Johnson and Velazquez are both better than Haley, so they should get the innings on Thursday if the Sox decide to bullpen day this thing out. Haley is probably only up until the Sox need to use Beeks and should be only getting garbage time innings. The Sox should throw their best pitching probables against New York.

I'm not sure what this means for Wright the rest of the season though. The injury issues are now real because he couldn't make it through 10 appearances without getting hurt again. Basically a Pedrioa situation redux here.
All in all, get Pomeranz stretched out because you're going to need him for the second half as a starter.

Cora said they're hoping to use Velazquez or Johnson on Thursday, depending on how the first two games go, but they'll need a spot starter against the Nationals as well. Clearly they want to keep Rodriguez-Sale-Price for the NYY.
My guess is they line it up for Beeks against the Nats.
If they absolutely had to, Shepherd is on the 40 and lines up for Thursday. Struggled his last start but he's been pretty good since the start of May. What I could see them doing, if they use Haley in the next couple days, is sending him down, calling Shepherd up and almost treating Thursday like a bullpen game. Use Velazquez until they get to him, Johnson until they get to him, Shepherd until they get to him, then hope it's late enough to use the back of the pen.

I think how we do in these other games (both in terms of wins/losses as well as taxation of the bullpen) may play a role in what we do on Thursday. I am ok with Wright taking some time off. I feel like as it gets warmer, the ball carries more which might not bode well for him. His style might be better suited for when it's colder (with the exception of rain). Then again I don't have a month by month breakdown of his pitching so I could totally be wrong here.
