Something to watch in the DSL (to the extent that's a thing) - Nelfy Abreu had played only CF, but his last six games: 2B/CF/CF/DH/DH/2B. He was billed as a SS when he signed last year for $450k. I'm wondering if he didn't take very well to CF.

He's hitting .225/.281/.449 with more strikeouts than hits. We're nowhere near a promoted-in-season causing a position switch to get playing time type of situation.

Whether it happens this season or next season or two seasons from now, eventually those four players are going to coexist on a roster somehow. I wouldn’t promote him right now, so don’t think that I’m advocating for that. But you can only cycle three or four players in 3B and DH for so long.

eventually those four players are going to coexist on a roster somehow. They almost certainly won't, and if they are it would be an awesome problem to have. For now, you maximize all of their value as individuals rather than try to piece them together for future hypothetical roster. EDIT: And I'm not trying to come down on you or anything. It's good to be optimistic and hope these problems will arise some day! But managing an organization based on building a future roster that has everyone hitting an optimal outcome isn't going to work. You develop players based on their individual skills and you deal with present roster crunches and backlogs when they happen, not future ones that may. Suppose Diaz develops into a stud and Casas flames out - but if you've stopped working Diaz at what you think is his best position based on the fact he might share a roster with Casas one day, then you've undercut his development and your own organization.

As of right now, your best-case scenario probably has Casas and Northcut in Greenville and Howlett and Diaz in Lowell next year. It's entirely possible it's Casas in Greenville, Northcut in Lowell, Howlett and Diaz in the GCL or some permutation of the two.
This reminds me of when Devers and Chavis were on the same team and there was much consternation about how that was hurting their development. Let it ride and deal with the problem when it's actually a problem.

Poor Kyri. When he's healthy, he hits the crap out of the ball. Just can't catch a break.

Durin O’Linger and Marcos Lantigua are both on six days rest for Greenville so I’m gonna assume that’s who we’re gonna see tonight.

Marino Campana hit his 12th home run of the season tonight. Had four for Lowell last year. He’s now second in the system behind Bobby Dalbec, who only has 1 home run in his last 19 games.
ADD: And Campana sells out for another home run in the second game of the doubleheader. #13 on the year.

Campana's a guy you need to see in person to get. He absolutely sells out to yank the ball over the fence, which is how you wind up with 12 home runs at the end of June but a .239 average or whatever he now has. He's definitely got pop but there are also significant approach issues.

I’ve seen him bat before and it’s not pretty. Huge holes in his approach. But regardless, the guy has some pop.

Santiago Espinal pinch hit for in the third inning. He’d made the last out in the field of the previous inning on a groundout.

Also for anyone that missed it in the injury thread, Flores is Fort Myers with general soreness, but could start playing games there instead of going back to the DR.

Sixth straight multi-hit game for Angel Maita. He's 18 for 37 during his eight-game hitting streak.

Obviously it's a secondary concern, but that's a crummy way for his 15-game hitting streak to end. EDIT: This is 100% baseless speculation, but Espinal is exactly the sort of player Dombrowski has tended to move (selling high on an athletic type who might be playing over his head but also someone it hurts to lose) EDIT2: How in the hell is Alex Speier not blue-check verified on Twitter? I had to triple check to make sure I hadn't been duped by a clone.

Evolving indeed. 8k's in 4.2 innings, along with 3 BB's. Pitch count up to 102, but only 59 for strikes. Only 3 of 5 runs were earned, but they did come in the 2nd where Darwinzon made 2 throwing errors. Last 2 runs in the 5th came home as the Mudcats greeted reliever Taylor Ahearn with a HR and Darwinzon's 2 runners left on scored.
Not sure if it's good that he went 102 pitches or not. No doubt he tired. He's showing some definite swing & miss stuff, but his efficiency is still a work in progress. Life in the minors!
