You have got to wonder if the Sox trade Pomeranz for salary relief alone to free up space under the luxury tax threshold to go get a reliever. Nobody's going to let anywhere near their investment portfolio. The boy high, sell low meme is a loser. Well, the time to sell high came and went this past off season. I want the best possible team for 2018 this season. I'm not even sure what Pomeranz is this year. I'm not even sure he'll even be a quality reliever this year even.

I don't think anyone knows what Pomeranz is this year...except certainly unready. Certainly not how the rehab start was supposed to go.

Just FYI, you made this exact argument about 100 times last offseason about Rick Porcello. That the time to sell high had passed, and was never coming back, and so they might as well just get out from under his contract now. Then he bounced back and became a good pitcher again and the Red Sox would be in a really rough spot without his presence behind Sale in the rotation. It makes even less sense with Pomeranz, whom trading wouldn't even open up a whole lot of salary space.

Porcello hasn't lost 3-4 mph off his fastball this year. Edit- The Sox don't have the luxury of finding out what Pomeranz is next year either.

I want to trade Porcello this offseason too for payroll purposes also. The Sox need room to make a reliever acquisition. Got to find it somewhere. Pomeranz has been atrocious all year. I would rather the Sox dump him for a better option this year in the bullpen. Again the Sox don't have the option of finding out what Pomeranz is next year.

Pomeranz is making a little over 8 million this year.
A trade would open up 4 million in AAV space. That's perfect for what the Sox need at the deadline. Fyi.

So, exactly like how the Red Sox were going to use that Rick Porcello money on $20 million on people better than Rick Porcello.
Your ongoing willingness to dump players who currently aren't playing well remains unmatched.

You know, while selling high on Porcello knowing his track record of being good one year and mediocre to bad the next year.

Only the ones you haven't seen pitch yet. There are very few actual relivers worth $4 million over 2 1/2 months. And I don't know why a team out of contention would trade one who was for Pomeranz, rather than for prospects. Anyway, this is the minor league gameday thread. This can be continued elsewhere.

Would gladly take this conversation elsewhere. I talked about Pomeranz's start in the minors today and future here knowing how bad he has been.

Brach making a little over 5 million this year. 2.25 AAV the rest of the year.
Soria making a little over 8 million in 2018 and is owed around 3.75 million the rest of the year.
Both players are proven commodities and have proven success in the AL this year. These are your two best options come trade deadline when it's all said and done.

For the record, when showed Pom's outing on NESN postgame show Eck did not say "Yuck!" Said he "must've been working on stuff."

There were a lot of people on this board who would felt exactly that way about Porcello before the season started. Not much noise these days.

LOL, I just realized Tim Tebow was born in the Philippines. I'm guessing he won't be replacing Manny Pacquiao as the national hero any time soon.

Nice improvement in all facets from this stateside debut in the GCL last year. I'm thinking Feltman won't be in Lowell long. His career so far: Ks, Kl, E4, 6-3; Ks 2-3, L3, Ks. Over/under, 5 appearances in Lowell?

Video of the Feltman outing, per Chris Smith.
Looks like first K was on the slider, second on the fastball. If this is how all hitters are looking against him, once his feet are under him on this schedule, they need to move him up.

I wasn’t around here during Papelbon’s time in the minors. How does Feltman compare to him? In terms of ceiling, hype, stuff, etc.

In terms of ceiling, hype, stuff, etc. Well Papelbon could start, so Papelbon's ceiling was way higher in terms of value. Papelbon instead chose to stay a closer and I personally think Feltman can become a first division closer someday. At the very worst he's a high leverage set up man someday if he can't close games.

Papelbon started for most of his minor league career, so probably not that great of a comparison (at least from a minor league perspective).
