The time has come to really consider Harvey as an option. I’m suitably convinced...he’s got enough upside to profile going forward as at least a guy who can slot in 4/5. There are enough signs lately (see article) to suggest he may be closer to a Porcello replacement than not. Depending on cost (as it always does), I think picking him up would be a really strong move at a spot where they’ve recently had some quality/depth issues. Price was atrocious yesterday and while he’s not going anywhere, the Sox may very well benefit from another RHSP option, especially one who can average 95 on his FB over nearly 6 innings. www.fangraphs.com/blogs/matt-harvey-is-getting-it-together/

I have no issue looking at Harvey as a free agent next year, but I'm not trading for him this year.
It could be Smart to move Porcello for prospects to fill CF/2B/pitching long-term and replace him with Harvey.

I guess I’d prefer that they have an option like Harvey or Wheeler under wraps before moving Porcello. But I think our end games are similar. It’s true that Harvey might cost something more than nothing, but I think he’d be very cheap, and he provides real upside. I think my concern about waiting is that, if he ends up finishing the year as he’s been going (or better), he may price himself out of the Sox’s range, given their other salary issues and his risk. A trade and reasonable extension (with options, etc) could be a smart pre-emptive move. Wheeler (and Matz) both look passable but would cost more prospect-wise, because of the control years. A guy like Espinal should be enough, especially if the Sox included an upside relief arm or a guy like Travis, who seems like a scenery-change candidate.
