I going to try to get over to Woodbridge to see Mata tonight, and generally to get to at least another one or two games this weekend.

The proposed site for the park in Fredericksburg would definitely be a good spot for an upgrade. Hard to downgrade from Pfitzner though.

Aldo Ramirez (who made a few appearances in the Mexican League as a 16-yr-old) with 5 no hit innings (1BB, 4Ks) for DSL Sox1 today.

The lack of performers at A+ with Mata (understandable), Houck, Thompson, Hernandez struggling is going to create a logjam 2nd half in Greenville with a few kids you might want to push a bit.
Reyes (21) Crawford (22) Diaz (21) are all at an age that seeing them advanced in 2nd half might be nice, especially to a pitcher-friendly league thats not a huge jump up. Interesting to see who gets the call and when.

Mata is still struggling to find the zone, which stinks. He got hit tonight too.
At least Dalbec went 4 for 5 with a homerun though.

Interesting to see who gets the call and when. I don't know that they'll shut Mata down entirely, but I don't see him getting pushed particularly hard in August. He's at 299 batters faces on the season after tonight's start, compared with 326 last year. Hernandez has actually pitched quite well recently, too. He's holding hitters to .238/.329/.286 in his last three starts, and those three starts each rank in the top four for the season in swinging strikes. If he keeps the momentum it's certainly possible they'd challenge him with a start or two in Portland to close the year. I guess that's my roundabout way of saying I think they'll be able to find innings for those guys if they want to promote them (which I see the argument for).

I'll have longer thoughts on Mata, but the tools are there for a Dude. He just has no idea where the FB is going right now, and he was really struggling to finish pitches. He works at a VERY fast pace, and part of me would like to see him slow down a bit and focus more each pitch (but this is so obvious that I'm sure it's something they've tried - it could be this is his most comfortable rhythm).
Put it this way, he was having a MUCH easier time locating his curveball in the strike zone than the fastball. After the first few batters, without looking at the numbers, I'm fairly certain he started more guys with the curve than the fastball. That could have had something to do with the lineup having 7 LHB in it, including the first six guys in the order.

The curve was excellent for Mata last night, in particular because of how wild he was with the FB.
His BB/K numbers against lefties are brutal, and it showed again last night. For the most part, he's just able to locate the fastball far better against RHH than LHH.
That said, the FB still looks like it has the chance to easily be his best pitch moving forward, in particular if he adds anything to the velocity. Revved upwards of 95 consistently in the 1st, then sat 93-94, with an occasional 95 as he moved forward.
Credit to him, as it could have been a disastrous outing. Stranded the bases full in each of the first two innings, and in the second, when he allowed three runs, a leadoff walk could/should have been erased on a double play, but Netzer didn't handle it cleanly and got only the out at first.
He and Dalbec are the most intriguing prospects on the team by a long shot IMO, while Chatham could be the most refined guy at the moment to where if I had to pick a guy right now who would probably make it somewhere, it would be him. He was legit robbed of a HR last night, and seems to be fairly smooth at SS

21% walk rate to LHB versus 15% to RHB. Latter number isn't good either--it is eighth-worst in the system for pitchers with at least 10 IP vs RHB--but that's certainly interesting. His K-Rate is actually what changes the most - 13% to 25%. That probably reflects the fact that he's much more comfortable with the curve than the change right now than anything else.
I think Chatham is right there with Dalbec. Doesn't have Dalbec's ceiling, sure, but his fatal flaw - his inability to stay on the field - seems more easily fixable than Dalbec's strikeout issues.
I think I actually got video of Chatham getting robbed of the HR. I'll have to see if it's worth posting or not - it's just from my cell phone.

Maybe Catham can make a Xander extension more interesting or maybe I'm getting way too far ahead of myself. I love the hitter Xander has turned into this year, so that makes it tough regardless.

or maybe I'm getting way too far ahead of myself. This. He's in High A and the longest he's been healthy for (actually playing SS) in his pro career in one stretch is like a month and a half.

Yeah I thought so, but a really good fully healthy year in AA next year could change it.
