Interesting that the GCL Orioles are a Tampa Bay affiliate.

I should probably know this but is Roldani Baldwin hurt? He hasn't played since he came out of the 6/22 game--Ben's recap has it as "Baldwin overran third, and dove back in safely, but he was injured on the play, and was replaced by pinch-runner Trenton Kemp." I was listening and IIRC he said it looked like his shoulder. SP has him on the DL; Salem's MiLB site doesn't, but it does seem to have 27 active players on a 25-man roster. I assume a transaction didn;t get logged somewhere along the way.

Looks like Zach Schellenger has been assigned to the GCL Red Sox for a rehab assignment.

Looks like Zach Schellenger has been assigned to the GCL Red Sox for a rehab assignment. I was beginning to wonder if he’d ever pitch this year.

Durbin Feltman has been promoted to Greenville and Chavis is back in Portland. The Red Sox released Nick Hamilton.

Rehabs for Schellenger and Glorius start just about as well as they can. Clean inning for Schellenger with 2 Ks and a groundout. Clean inning for Glorius with one K and two groundouts.
I wonder what the velocity looked like for Schellenger. Wonder if he’s back up to his pre-injury speeds.

Just clean in and out innings.

2018 remains terrible for the farm.
Typically hamate surgery saps power for about a year, right?

The season-opening top 20, a pessimist's view (to be clear, not mine - this is exaggerated for effect):
1) Tommy John 2) 80-game suspension 3) Leads Car. Lg. in walks 4) Second in Car. Lg. in walks 5) .227/.296/.345 6) OMG HAVING A GOOD YEAR... but despite that, somehow snubbed for Eastern League ASG in favor of not one but two teammates having inferior seasons 7) Third in Car. Lg. in walks 8) Intercostal strain probably will lead to missing 2 months or so. 9) Minor injury kept out a few weeks, but then AHHHH ANOTHER GUY HAVING A PRETTY GOOD YEAR 10) Only recently dropped to second in the Car. Lg. in strikeouts 11) Elbow injury ended season in June 12) .157/.246/.205 then demoted from Greenville to Lowell 13) A THIRD GOOD YEAR GUY YAY although he kind of got thumped in his MLB debut 14) OH COOL A FOURTH G... oh crap hamate surgery nvm 15) Thoroughly meh season 16) .256/.291/.302 17) Yet another significant injury early in the year kept from full-time SS duty until June 18) Meh in the majors, graduated, now on the DL with a hip thing. 19) Elbow injury kept out until late April, now in bullpen 20) Leads Car. Lg. in BB/9, multiple DL stints
Well, at least there's the draf...
1) Torn UCL in thumb in second game, done for the year 2) Wrist fracture during BP before even debuting, will probably miss at least a month.
Le sigh...

Hamate surgery is a huge buzzkill for a power hitter like Diaz. Brutal Going back into optimist mode, it actually could be good for him. He's been incredibly feast-or-famine - he's got 13 XBH and 12 singles, hitting .238 with a .283 OBP while striking out a bit much. Get him back in Instructs and get him to work on his plate approach. Could be a positive in the long run for his development.

Hamate surgery is a huge buzzkill for a power hitter like Diaz. Brutal Injuries to a hitter’s top hand, thumb, wrist seem to take about a year to stop affecting power.

Hamate surgery is a huge buzzkill for a power hitter like Diaz. Brutal Isn’t hamate what Bobby Dalbec had? There was a definite recovery time, but long term he should be just fine. Remember, he’s still just 17. Similar to what Chris said, these injuries could be a blessing in disguise for Diaz and Flores. The small pieces of the game are sometimes the most important. They need to learn how to be professional athletes, how to navigate a country and culture different than the ones that they grew up in, how to read pitchers and make adjustments, how to study a pitcher and become a better batter. There’s more to baseball than just swinging a bat and running the bases. Further time to develop the mental aspect of the game could be even better for them in the long run.

This has been the worst year in terms of system development that I can remember in a long, long time. Perhaps ever.
