That is why spring training is always so great. Hope springs eternal. With expectations all over the map will be a fun year to see what happens.

Spring Training is indeed a tease; can simultaneously be a prophet and a false prophet. But Russo, IMO, is right that the Sox have some talented, likely underrated arms working their way up. And Duran is just one position player making a case alongside of Casas, Dalbec and new guys Downs and Wong. Because the farm is starting to produce again, the future is looking much brighter. Abondanza.

Looks like this kid is on his way. Who says we have no prospects. If those pitchers start showing or taking the next steps this season watch out. Just a side note I was always rooting for Okimey ( platoon first base) and before they signed Moreland I thought he have a chance as a lefty bat to play first. I hope he gets a chance to come up even for a few games. I never thought he got even a little sniff yet, when you look at some of the others who got a chance I thought the bat at least warranted it. Moreland gets hurt , I do like his signing because he has a knack to provide pitch hitting also. I am telling you the future of this team is tied into that young pitching I really have a feeling they have something there. I see this said a lot and I never understand it; no one is saying the Red Sox have no prospects. They just don't have a Franco, Gore, Adell leve guy and up until some nice low-minors breakouts last season the system's depth had been depleted by win-now trades and graduation of star players like Bogaerts and Devers. This farm system isn't being ranked last in the league anymore, I think it is getting the appropriate level of respect it deserves. You can say "oh there's no way that they should be only ranked 23rd, guys like Duran and Dalbec have such high ceilings and don't get enough respect nationally" but literally every fanbase thinks the same thing of their prospects and it's only because those are the prospects you see the most.

I'll predict that Duran will be the fastest riser in our system.
I was listening to last night's game. On both flyouts, Joe C.'s voice went up an octave like it does with well struck balls.

It doesn’t get talked about a lot but he’s a reasonably big guy. It wouldn’t shock me if an adjustment led to some unexpected power

A quick twitch above average athlete that is 6'2 200 lbs can turn into a force with the maturation of his game. Plenty of reason to be excited and the timing couldn't be better with JBJ becoming a FA after this season. Although I do hope JBJ takes a good look at his opp. field hitting stats and embraces that as a strength to focus on this year. He could do a lot to help his free agency and the Sox this year if he would just smarten up and realize what he is good at and focus on it.

Yeah if you told me that guy regularly popped 25 home runs I would believe you
What in the hell are they doing in Long Beach making this guy a slap hitter???
Another year removed from that program should only lead to good things as far as I’m concerned. Give him some time with his tweaks and we may have something special here
Still getting bad reads in CF it seems though. Experience will help that. Speed will help mask that in the meantime

Speed will help mask that in the meantime 25 might be a little too high but Brett Gardner has averaged 20 over the last three seasons, that is probably the absolute high end scenario I could see for him if the swing change is legit.

Gardner wouldn’t have nearly as many if he didn’t play at Yankee Stadium. I just want Duran to hit the ball hard. Going for home runs as a lefty in Fenway is a losing battle. Benintendi is kind of figuring that out the hard way. My armchair coaching for Duran would be: Drive the ball, work the gaps, try to cut down on Ks

We're comping to Gardner's age 33-35 seasons ? The comp is otherwise great though.
Benni and Duran aren't similar in approach at all, they aren't good comps. There have been many many lefties that have been aided by Fenway. We forget history ? Start with the Hall of Famers.

I was more specifically looking at Gardner during the massive home run spike across baseball overall as an example of a non-traditional power hitter who has "tapped into" some power during this era. Gardner isn't a perfect comparison by any means but to be honest it was pretty off the cuff and he was already in my head.

A young Brett Gardner and Jarren Duran are excellent comps to this point if Duran doesn't start hitting for more power. Both are athletic, fast, line to line linedrive hitters. Gardner was also very physical as a minor leaguer: The hope here though is that Duran will start to tap into his power which Gardner didn't do until his speed went away.

Hey everybody! Remember when prospects used to play in games (either spring training or regular season), and we'd get excited when they would perform well? I'm going to do that now!

Those guns are huge. Bigger than Bret's. He already has the power. Just has to figure out how to use it.
