Roldani Baldwin activated from the DL tonight. Batting third and DHing in his first game back.
CJ Chatham gets a day off. Had played each of the previous 16 games, 13 at shortstop.

Jarren Duran at it again. 2-3, 2 BB's, his 7th triple of the season.

Jonathan Ortega, 19th rounder this year, is off to a good start. Hitting .326 with an .835 OPS through his first 16 games. Contact hitter profile and seems to have a good batter’s eye. 11 walks to only 5 strikeouts. Athletic and profiles to be a good defender.

Scouting the box score here, but it looks like Houck was a lot more effective than the box score shows. Four of the runs he allowed were in the seventh inning, and three were inherited. Before the seventh he was at 6 2 1 1 1 4, with 11 groundouts. Needed only 73 pitches to get through those first six, which is presumably why he was allowed to go into the seventh.

Jarren Duran at it again. 2-3, 2 BB's, his 7th triple of the season. His line is close to looking a bit cartoonish. The 7 triples (ntm the .368/.417/.609/1.026) in 94 PA is ridiculous. I mean, are we talking an o/u of 15 triples for SS ball?! Wow, is he ever looking like a steal.

As he left the press box, Winston-Salem's broadcaster said to me: "I feel bad for Houck, because his final line was BULLLLLLLSHIT." Tanner was borderline unhittable until the sixth, and was getting tons of groundouts. Strong start, truly.

Now that Houck is back to using an arsenal that he's a bit more comfortable with (although the breaking ball is a different grip than the one he used to throw - he's still rolling with the spike curve grip, although it behaves more like a slider), I'd think he won't be challenged until he moves up. 92-94 with run and sink, located well, with an above-average breaking ball will be all he needs against High A hitters.

Eduard Bazardo with another fine start: 6IP 3H 0ER 0BB 6K In 32 innings this year, he has 37K to 4BB. I looked at Eduard Bazardo's numbers. They are amazing. I know he is not real big and I've never seen him, but how is his K/BB ratio and WHIP so good for several years? Is he using mirrors? Nobody seems to hit the guy! He is not in our top 60, so I gather his "stuff" is not impressive, but I'd love to hear from anyone who has experienced El Bazardo!

Hi Steve, I tried to give a quick summary of Bazardo's progression here which also includes some firsthand observations from our poster soxin8. Also, Ian got to see him live and tweeted this about him: He does seem to have FB velocity that gets over 90, so he is a bit more interesting than the extreme pitchability (tops out in the mid 80s) type. Couple that with his numbers, and the consistency of his numbers in particular, and I'm pretty intrigued (which I guess is obvious from my multiple posts about him).
