Apparently Witte is on his way back to Pawtucket, per Brendan McGair.

There needs to be more moves coming from Portland. With Renda and Witte going up to Pawtucket, that leaves the Sea Dogs with only 10 position players on the roster. Not sure what the moves will be, but there will be moves.

Not sure if position players can be put on the DL retroactively, but De La Guerra’s 7 days isn’t up until tomorrow. I’m not sure how that works TBH. But Monge, Tobias, and Bladel are certainly possibilities. It would be good to see Monge for the first time this season.

So for whatever it's worth, "Pom" in the font for the board sometimes looks like an R and an N rather than an M at the end...

Hey! I just posted about Ortega yesterday. Guess they really like his defensive versatility and ability to put the ball in play. I’m sure he’ll go back down somewhere once things settle down a bit.

I am excited to see how Ortega does, but by my count, Pawtucket is still at 23 players. I know De Jesus Jr. is on TIA and they will need to add Phillips soon but why do they keep playing below the 25 player mark?

Ortega might play, but this means they like his defense and are comfortable disrupting his development to move him up to help cover at the PawSox. As far as the 23 players thing, consider that Pomeranz is there and doesn't count. Consider further that Travis comes back down on Monday. Teams play below 25 all the time, especially the AAA club. It's actually not a huge problem since playing a man or two short on the bench isn't really a huge deal - if anything it can be better for guys who'll now get regular PT. EDIT: we need a list of guys they've done this with - bumping them up 2+ levels to help with injuries or general shorthandedness. Matt Sheely is the one popping into my head right now because he was with Pawtucket for like a week but happened to be there when they took the team photo that year in 2007 when he should've been in Greenville. Aaron Reza was up for that team photo when he should've been with Lowell (or the Wu-Tang Clan).

Tough day for GCL outfielders...2 routine fly balls dropped between left and center while Glorius was pitching. Schellenger again was good 91-93. Glorius was 91-93. Struckout his last batter after the flyballs dropped with a pair of 95 mph fastballs. Game just got rained out in the 6th

Nick Lovullo started 2016 in Lowell, got bumped up to Portland for both ends of a doubleheader on July 9, then back to Lowell--though he did get promoted to Greenville after 3 more games.

Struckout his last batter after the flyballs dropped with a pair of 95 mph fastballs. Game just got rained out in the 6th LF and CF were being manned by 2018 draftees, catcher Lane Milligan in left and high schooler Caleb Ramsey (who's been having a bit of a rough adjustment to pro ball) in CF. Not what you'd like to see but you can see how that might happen with that combo.

How long do you think they will keep them on those rehab assignments?

Darwinzon now at 16.2 consecutive scoreless frames after five shutout innings tonight. Six hits (all singles, two of them pretty flukey), two walks, and six K. He looked sharp.

I think I like this line better than 10K's and 5BB's. Although 10K's and 2 BB's would really be great. Is he doing anything different that you are aware of?

Trenton Kemp hit a home run tonight for his fourth game in a row with a round tripper. He hasn’t been able to get into a grove all year, hitting just .203. But his 9th home run tonight pushes his OPS up to a respectable .703. Hopefully his hot July can bring that number even further.

Seems like he's attacking the zone more consistently. I'm hoping to interview him tomorrow in Spanish, and have Chris Madera do a first-person translation for that NPR-style sound.

The key for Hernandez is trying to not just throw it at his top velo by everyone every pitch. Mixing his pitches, sequencing, etc. A ball thrown out of the zone can be effective, but it just has to be sequenced in such a way to induce a swing.
