Ahearn is up to replace Mata on TIA. Looks like 28th rounder Kris Jackson was promoted from the GCL to Lowell

Another day, another Bobby Bomb. #23 on the year.
77th RBI for Dalbec. Only one man in all of baseball has more runs batted in and that’s J.D. Martinez.
EDIT ADD: Yeah, RBI’s are a fairly useless stat, but that’s still a lot of a fairly useless stat.

Per the trackman guy here in Wilmington, 110 MPH off the bat, 438 ft, just left of CF. Majestic.

Dalbec ties Sox-era (2009-present) record for HR in a month (8 - Xander Bogaerts - June 2012). Next HR ties him for Sox-era career record (Brandon Jacobs) of 24.

Mata's trackman: 95 (95.7 max) FB, 86 CH, 78 CB His curve definitely flashes plus. I see a nice arm there.

Watched Mata’s inning in the futures game and he’s fairly matched up to the scouting report. Good movement on the fastball and excellent velocity for a 19 year old, but the control is a definite work in progress. Some of the pitches were above guys’ heads and the wild pitch was a few feet outside. In general, the fastball was just all over the place. The offspeed pitches were much better controlled. Not sure if it was the change or curve that he got his strikeout on, but it looked really good. He worked around a walk and a single by getting a ground ball to end the inning.

Torii Hunter is one of the most likable players ever. It was a treat to hear him talk for a half inning. He's such a riot. I wish he played for the Red Sox at some point.

Ok so this conversation with Torii Hunter while he’s managing is seriously some of the best TV I have seen in my life. The guy’s happiness is absolutely infectious and he loves working with these kids so much. If he does go into managing eventually, he’s going to be a guy that players love to play for.

Denyi Reyes with another excellent start. His ridiculous season continues. 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 Ks. ERA down to 1.79. Well on his way to a third straight pitcher of the month award. Darwinzon is a serious competitor for that though. But regardless, it’s time to see what Reyes can do in Salem.

There was a guy in the DSL All-Star Game named Martin Cordova, which absolutely made my day.

Tori Hunter had a no trade clause one of the teams was Boston. Sure, but sometimes a no-trade to a market like Boston just means a chance for a player to extract a little extra to waive it if the situation arises. (Obviously in his case he may not have wanted to break his ankle in CF again.) In late summer 2007 I was sitting in the bleachers and two guys near me were yelling to Torii most of the game about how he should come to Boston (apparently unconcerned that we had Crisp and a rising Ellsbury). They kept it up for a long time as he ignored them, until it died down, save for one last plea bellowed into the near-quiet: "Torii! Anywhere but the Yankees!" He didn't move from his position watching the plate, but slowly, with his back to us, he raised his right hand... with a thumbs-up. Crowd went crazy.

DSL All-Star game stats:
Rafaela: HBP and CS. Played 2B instead of his usual 3B.
Maita: 0-1
Angel Gonzalez: 1-2, R, SB
The whole game consisted of 3 wild pitches, 8 hit batters, 2 errors, 4 walks, and a partridge in a pear tree.

Another homer for Boston Red Sox prospect Bobby Dalbec. 2-for-2 today. He has 23 home runs for High-A Salem. He's slashing .451/.508/1.059/1.567 with 8 homers, 5 doubles, 1 triple and 22 RBIs in July. . . . . For the year: .265/.377/.583/.960 Moving on up...

Also, if you're only going to get a limited no-trade, it makes sense to put teams on there who are likely to try and trade for you. It's more likely that a competitive team like the Red Sox will trade for you than a team going through a rebuilding phase and trying to trade away their veterans, so why put a team in that latter category in your 5 or 10 teams or whatever? But yeah, having Boston in your no-trade doesn't mean you don't want to come to Boston or have anything against the franchise. It's smart business.
