Rusney Castillo continues to rake in AAA .796 OPS on the year with a .377 BABIP entering the night. Seriously, where does this idea that he's playing so well come from? It's definitely not just you, so please don't take it that way, but everyone acts like he's beating his way out of Pawtucket or something. He had a great July but on like a .460-ish BABIP. Lol, I saw his average climbing a week back or so and thought, “wow, he seems hot, what’s he doing?” Hitting for no power and still not walking was what I found out. It’s too bad, he’s probably a good 4th OF for a contender, but his contract is killing any chance he has at MLB.

I dunno. Since 6/1 he's at .349/.413/.486 with a 9.1% walk rate. His BABIP during that stretch is .396, which isn't sustainable, but his numbers would be good even if you do a correction about that. His approach has been better when I've seen him this year as well. Tonight's hit (which admittedly wasn't at all hit hard) came on a 3-1 count that I don't think he'd have worked a couple years ago.
I just don't know what people expect to happen with him, though. Given the current roster construction he really doesn't make the Red Sox better, nobody else is trading for that contract, and it wouldn't make sense for the Red Sox to eat contract to get rid of him because I can't see another team giving up much. The contract thing adds a wrinkle but at the core of the situation Castillo is an okay player who happens to be blocked.

He’s batting .323. I understand his OPS should be better but it’s not, but .799 is still not bad. I get that he doesn’t walk at all. Seems like a good contact hitter though. I am impressed by his batting average.
