I missed that Sharwaryn got promoted. Good for that kid. He had a good year in AA this year.

John : Thoughts on Bryan Mata? High walk rate at hi-a, but still only 19 Keith Law: Big arm but reliever with that slot/delivery.

The reality is that those who review pitching prospects are more likely to take the safe route and say reliever, because its a safety net projection. If they exceed expectations, no one is calling you out. I personally trust the front office because we were able to identify his talent level and sign him for cheap when not many others would.

Dalbec is an absolute monster. We haven't had a prospect with power like him in many years.
Chavis with 2 home runs tonight...glad to see he is looking like his old self...

Dalbec's Portland line is even more absurd than the Salem one. 25 PA, 9 K, 4 HR, 3 BB, 9 balls in play. 30% of the balls Dalbac has made fair-territory contact with have gone out of the park. He has 16 homers since June 29 (33 games). In 2015, Michael Chavis lead system for the entire season with 16.

Taking into consideration how slowly Dalbec started (I think he was Mendoza line for the first couple of month) it is impressive what he has done recently. He surely would have made the mid-season top 100 prospect lists if he played like he's played since June or July or whenever he put it together.

Duran was 2 for 5 with a stolen base. He also lowered every component of his slash line.

He probably said the same thing about Justin Masterson. Saw him as a multi-inning reliever I believe. Yes but that was based on the lack of a change up which ultimately was his undoing.

I don't believe that's true but, keep in mind that Severino wasn't signed until he was 18 which means that every team in baseball totally whiffed on him two consecutive years. Severino was a surprise to pretty much everybody.

We haven't had a power prospect like Dalbec since... Chavis last year. We were saying a lot of the same things after his 31 HRs at 2 levels at age 21. Not calling you out, just thought it was funny to see those two sentences together (and agree they are a bit different). Really glad to see both performing to their ceilings in AA.

Found an article where he talks about guys he missed on: www.espn.com/blog/keith-law/insider/post/_/id/7663 In it, he says he “loved his arm but hated his arm action, forecasting that it would eventually lead him to a relief role because pitchers who throw like he does frequently break down or struggle to command their fastballs”.

I disagree with comparing Dalbec’s power to Chavis. I think Dalbec is a near 80 Grade in Power. Chavis more like a 65-70. Dalbec has a special type of raw power you don’t see very often. The length of his home Runs and exit velocities are Stanton levels. The Salem manager, who has had Benintendi, Moncada, Devers and Chavis, said Bobby Dalbec has the most power, "It's not even close."
