I don't think Eovaldi makes the playoff roster because I think the Pitching staff roster will be; Sale, Porcello, Price, E. Rod Kimbrel, Barnes, Hembree, Braisier, Kelly, Thornburg, Velázquez, Johnson Just a reminder that as of yesterday you thought Thornburg would be on the playoff roster over Eovaldi, lol Just to be clear, it's what I think the Sox will do NOT what I would do. If it was up to me Thornburg would still be in AAA working his way back. And I also said that I could see them going with Workman over Thornburg. So, lol all you want

Herculean performance by Price. This series tells us two things - we can play with Cleveland - and we can come back and rally from a few tough losses. Folks, this is NOT your 2016 and 2017 Red Sox. This is Cora's team. Was there any doubt we could play with Cleveland? The Sox are up 15 games on Cleveland with a far better run differential in a tougher division. Sure, they're a quality team who could be trouble in the playoffs, but Boston has been playing better all year.

Look at the way Francona managed the series will tell you how he felt. They got to Kluber early but credit Kluber also. Very impressive. I was aggravated about Mondays game but I feel better actually much better about the matchup. Next time we see them it will be the 20th Of Sept an probably wont matter.

Great win. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to watch it; hard to catch the weekday afternoon games. Would have been good to see Price show out.
This was a decent series, overall. Got a split and probably should have won game 1 as well. I’ll take it.

90 wins on the season with 33 left to play is just absurd. Its crazy to think that if this team finished 17-16, they would still reach 107 wins.

I got a more regular job recently (standard daytime hours) so i can no longer watch daytime games, but glad to see we had a crew holding the fort and how bout the boys laying down the hammer the last 2 games.
Yeah....these guys are damn good.

There is the Holt-Núñez-León trio again, ugh. 3 for 10 with a run scored & 2rbi + an outstanding play each by Nunez & Holt & Leon with another great game behind the plate.

I wanted to bet the season over/under, which was 93 I am pretty sure, but my book was out of business and I couldn't find a taker. That would have been a nice one to get in, oh well.

Unreal that this team is 90-39. What an incredible season to witness.

Catch you for the Tampa games!

I wonder what Pedro was thinking.
Maybe posters should start mixing in some “what would Pedro say” posts:

All I can say is that we're getting so spoiled by winning that I shudder to think about the complaints in future seasons when they're struggling to reach 90+ wins, which is the typical season for a good team. People have been surprisingly patient with the 3 game losing streak, but that's just not going to happen in future years.
I thought that Francona managed this series like it was the playoffs, while Cora did not. So a split is even better than a split if that makes sense.

Interesting series. Came in at the right time for the last game, just as they piled up the six runs. Watched a few innings of the others as well. Allen doesn't quite look like the same pitcher, and I was surprised they left him in as long as they did and that they brought him back two games later. It was only a matter of time till the Sox came out of their hitting funk and Betts, who's swinging from the heels as others have pointed out, will come around also. It's just a matter of time. Bogaerts is such a good player and he's expanded his hitting chops once again. He can flare to right, hit bombs to left, rocket liners to center and now he's hit a deep drive to the bullpen, one that just kept carrying. He's the real deal and flying largely under the radar. Us fans are very lucky.

Guys, do you remember when PECOTA projected the Sox to finish the season with 89-73 record? I do hahahahaha Yeah. Crazy that we could lose out and still exceed preseason expectations.

Thornburg just is not very impressive, not one of the team's better acquisitions.

I’ve been sucked it by this team but i started off that nothing would matter until October success. They won me over though

Awesome game. Got to witness this one firsthand.
There was never any exclamation point on their rallies, but suddenly a scoreless game became a 6-0 blowout with the aid of 3 two-run doubles.
And that was plenty because David Price was totally awesome. He's pitching the way you'd hoped he would when he signed up. They need this David Price come October.
Honestly I hope that he and Porcello can get a little bit of rest here and there. I would have been fine with Price being pulled after 88 pitches after 7, but he went out there for that one extra inning.
I just think if he gets an extra day or two or some shorter outings as the September games get less important, it would do him good to help preserve him for the playoffs. Same deal with Porcello. E-Rod and Sale have already had their rests.
Swihart did a good job filling in for Moreland on both sides of the ball. I was surprised they didn't go to Pearce but I guess Cora wanted Pearce for later if Miller or Hand were in the game. Makes good sense.
Thornburg didn't look overly impressive. It was kind of crazy. 21 pitches and no outs and then out of nowhere 2 pitches for 3 outs and the ballgame.
Hard to believe but I've attended both of my games I've had tickets for and in both games the Sox pitched a shutout, the 3-0 Eovaldi debut win over Minnesota and Price's masterpiece against Cleveland today.
And here we are with the Sox winning 90 games before they've even lost their 40th and with a win tomorrow they'd be back at .700 on the 130th game of the season!

David Price has arrived! What a gem. He's dominating right now. In case anybody was wondering... Price's Game Score of 89 today was the best of his career. He has posted 87 twice, 4/25/2010 vs TOR (9.0/4/0/0/0/1/9) and 8/21/2014 vs TB (8.0/1/1/0/0/0/9). Last 6 starts:
41.3 29 5 5 7 41. 1.09 ERA.
I hope people realize that if, God forbid, Chris Sale has been struck by metaphorical lightning, a post-season rotation led by this David Price and followed by (in some order) Eduardo Rodriguez, Nate Eovaldi, and Rick Porcello (and maybe Steven Wright is in there somewhere) is still formidable. And Brian Johnson, who can't even get a mention in that sentence, has been a bit better than the typical 4th starter on a WS winner.
