Honestly can’t say I disagree with any of those picks. Excellent roster choice.

Honestly can’t say I disagree with any of those picks. Excellent roster choice. Agree. This is a well thought out list. I only wish some type of one-off, individualized solution to Rusney and the Sox's dilemma could be worked out as an exception in order to get him to MLB somewhere, without penalizing either party. Thie current situation punishes the player, punishes the Sox for making a deal they shouldn't have, and punishes teams that may benefit from his service but won't/can't pay that huge contract, especially with Cap penalties. The MLBPA and MLB should be able to talk to each other as the adults in the room and create a solution that won't set everyone's hair on fire. Example for purpose of discussion: Sox pay "X" amount of his remaining salary, the signing team pays the balance. The Sox are not penalized against the cap. The signing team only has their portion applied to the cap. Everyone wins. Nobody loses. It's the right thing for baseball. And yes, most unions and corporations can and do such deals.

I mean, Colorado and Philadelphia are both contending for the playoffs with outfields that are in the negative WAR: www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/team_compare.cgi?request=1&year=2018&lg=MLB&stat=WARBoth teams have plenty of money to spend. At 2/$21M, they should just Rule 5 draft the guy and not miss the playoffs by a game in 2019 out of cheapness. Geraldo Parra got similar money this year and has a -1.3 WAR since 2014 and the Rockies have run him out there for 400 plate appearances, and they are tied for first place. And Castillo would be even more valuable as defense off the bench in that huge Coors outfield. ----- As far as the end of season All-Stars the toughest omission for me was Howlett, who was outstanding for the GCL Red Sox but wasn't getting in at third base over Dalbec.

Or Nishioka, the UT, who we'd considered shoehorning in at 2B but really didn't fit there after spending almost all year at third. 3B was by far the strongest position in the system performance-wise this year. (Compare with catcher, where we discussed whether to honor anyone at all.) Once the pitchers come out today, it'd be interesting to think about what the SP.com Second Team might look like. Howlett is definitely on there.

No Travis Lakins? I'm curious to know why he wasn't selected.

No Travis Lakins? I'm curious to know why he wasn't selected. For me, it was simply a space issue. Brasier was my #1 choice, he was just totally dominant with Pawtucket. After that, Gorst had a big innings advantage: 68 1/3 to 37 1/3 for Lakins once he moved to a strict bullpen role. From there, I was back and forth between Feltman and Lakins - and Feltman came out ahead--36K:5BB in 23 1/3, against Lakins who was at 37K:13BB in 37 1/3. Feltman also didn't surrender a single home run, and 44% of the runs Lakins allowed were unearned. So, even if you believe Lakins BABIP-stifling tendencies were real, he just didn't measure up to Feltman for me. Robby Scott was also in the conversation.

I'll bite: C - Elih Marrero 1B - Pedro Castellanos 2B - Brett Netzer (faded down stretch, but was otherwise solid) SS - Tzu Wei Lin 3B - Michael Chavis OF - Tyler Dearden OF - Gilberto Jimenez OF - Devlin Granberg U - Brandon Howlett SP - Darwinzon Hernandez SP - Eduard Bazardo SP - Brayan Bello SP - William Cuevas SP - Tanner Houck (obviously the season line doesn't stand out, but knowing how well he performed down the stretch I think would merit a spot) RP - Travis Lakins RP - Robby Scott RP - Rio Gomez

Yeah it surprised me as well when we started the conversation, but if you look at the numbers over the course of the season, Lakins wasn't even really all that close to those three, imo.

SoxProspects.com Awards: Homegrown Player, Ex-Prospect, and Graduate and of the Year: linkIn what decade will Mookie stop winning that award? It's funny because we made the award, iirc, when there were a bunch of young players we wanted to highlight, but now he's so far ahead of everyone it seems silly.

Fair enough. I was putting more weight in the level of competition between Feltman and Lakins but I can see the other reasoning's logic.
