this is the problem with Wright as a late inning arm....i wouldnt want to use him in the 7th or 8th of a close game, pitch is too unpredictable. that could be true, but he is trying to adapt to a role and you would think there is a period of adjustment. Fortunately for us, our great team has given Cora a chance to experiment. He seems like he could be a key part of the puzzle

Vazquez does a nasty job of catching the knuckle ball.

I really hope Wright can stay healthy next year in the rotation.

to be clear, I like Wright as a rotation member, but not as a guy who comes in for an inning at a time and you hope he has it.

Nice dinner time surprise - some very welcomed offense with my ratatouille and wine! JBJ getting more clutch as the season goes on...and what can we say about Brockstar! My kids saw that movie. I didn't know they made wine.

I still trust Wright more than Kelly and Hembree guys. At least he doesn't give up that much hard contact like they do.

I think what people are having trouble with is the top corner of the wall is still the red line. It would have to hit the top of the wall, as in the flat ledge of the top of the wall. And the ball couldn't really hit that and bounce up and forward back onto the field. There is a second ledge on top of the monster at the back of the 'top' and in front of the fans - about two inches high. It went over the red line and hit the second ledge square bouncing back.

That's what you have to worry about with the knuckleball with runners on base late in games, the passed ball/wild pitches aspect of everything.
He definitely needs clean innnings to mitigate this.

Passed balls shouldn't even be a stat for knuckleball pitchers. That knuckleball was ridiculous and must have moved 3 feet in alternating directions.

That was terrible by Vazquez. I don't know Tizzle. You have no idea the ball would drop that far with the knuckleball. It hit the dirt after it fell all the way up from the height of the batters chest. I can't blame Vazquez there.

Why not drop to ur knees and turned the glove and use ur chest to block it? Effort left a lot to be desired

It looks lazy because he has to stab at it late to catch it and it happened to fall all the way in the dirt.

For the first time all year, you're seeing Cora's go to bullpen formula though.
It's pretty cool to see. Poyner/Workman in the 6th based on matchups. Wright in the 7th. Brasier for the 8th. Kimbrel in the 9th.

That's why Vazquez's glove was angled down the whole way. He just didn't bother to get out fo his crouch to use his body to block it.

You don't know it's dropping all the way until the last second though. The knuckleball moves in a thousand directions. That's why it's so hard to barrel and hit.

He tries to pick over blocking all the time. It's just who he is and if he's the C they want out there than they just have to live with it. Personally with all the experimenting going on I'd rather see Swihart get some real run so the P's can realize he's just as capable behind the plate and MUCH better with the bat...
