My understanding is that he didn't have a photo credential. Credentials are pretty specific as to where you can be when--for example, there are a lot of pregame field credentials (like a first-pitch person from a charity bringing their photographer) that don't extend to being in the photo pit once the game begins, and media passes for writers generally give clubhouse access but not photo (and photo passes offer the reverse). That said, if you're on the field pregame via any other credential (or if a team lets you through the dugout) you wouldn't necessarily attract attention immediately if you slipped into one of the pits and stayed out of the way of the long lenses and laptops.

That is a bunch of BS right there. There were prior reports about MLB increasing security, including sending in MLB personnel to the respective team's video replay rooms during Game 3 yesterday. How does MLB explain the alledged incidents in Game 3 of the ALDS between the Astros and Indians with this guy taking pictures into the Indians' dugout or Game 1 of the ALCS with this same guy taking pictures into the Red Sox dugout. If MLB was all over it, then why would an Astro's employee need to be monitoring compliance with the MLB rules and regulations if MLB beefed up its security personnel and enforcement of MLB policies? Apparently lying is considered acceptable in our country and we are all expected to look the other way.

I'm glad this is over, this stuff is overratedly stupid. The only form of cheating that was REALLY bad was that Cardinals scam a few years ago when they were stealing information off the Astros.
I'm glad nothing came of this really.

That's just MLB doing damage control during the playoffs. What they said is complete BS. If the guy was there to make sure that the Indians or Red Sox weren't cheating, then how the hell would they have presented that to MLB if he found anything? By telling them they had a spy in the press box? No. They were caught and this was their excuse.
Why was he sending tons of information to the Houston dugout/clubhouse? To keep them updated on how much/little the other team is cheating? No. He was freaking taking pictures and sending it to the team, giving the Astros information that the other team could not get on them without also cheating.

I think a lot of this stuff is ridiculous - I spent 15 years coaching DI softball and we spent hours on scoring reports part of which was to get signs for action plays and tips on pitches. In games we were always watching the opposing signs and trying to find ways to ID pitches or steals catchers signs and alert our hitters. Everybody did it. And after all that time wasted, 90% of the time our hitters would say, 'I don't want the info coach. It makes me think too much.' Any hint we had an action sign and it was changed immediately and we started the dance all over...
That being said - like Dombrowski - I am extremely annoyed by how this played out. There were plenty of ways to sweep this under the rug (which the Sox were helping to Do by completely downplaying the situation) without actively making the Astros out to be the noble party in the group and the Indians and Red Sox the potential bad guys...
It's obvious they we're up to something. The idea they were just keeping an eye out for potential cheaters is a joke. Why would they need pictures when they could just watch? What was the guy texting all the time? 'Nothing yet guys', over and over? Please...
The fact that MLB went straight to Astros sources, got an excuse and are now passing the 'Astros prevent cheating' line around in official press releases and as the official answer as to what was happening is a joke. Dombrowski and the Red Sox should be pissed. No one is buying that line if the roles were reversed.
A non-factor on the field, but pitifully handled off of it...

So the Astros are like a 5 year old who eats a plate a cookies with chocolate all over their face and they continue to insist they didn’t eat said cookies. MLB says there is nothing to see here. Seriously? That is way more messed up than anything Goodell and his minions cook up in the NFL offices,
