The inevitable happened. He was the best player in baseball during the regular season in 2018. Congrats to Mookie. Hopefully there's one or two more in his trophy room before it is all over.
He also won the batting crown in 2018. How many MVP's can say that?

@chriscotillo Betts won MVP, Gold Glove, Silver Slugger and World Series. Only other major-leaguer to ever do that is Mike Schmidt in 1980.

You forget just how good it was. What a player. I'll never see a better player than Mookie Betts in a Sox uniform, without a doubt. Happy and blessed to be watching him in my prime as a adult.

Our next dog will be named Mookie!
In all of my years watching the Red Sox play, watching Mookie do 2018 was the most consistent delight. His smile is infectious...no matter what is to come, this year is indelible.

Well deserved... great season for Betts and the Sox. Where do Betts and Boston's front office go from here? Any thoughts?

My girlfriend did not know why I was so excited about Mookie Betts in 2014 and why I was like a 8 year old kid on Christmas when it looked like Mookie was going to be coming to face the Durham Bulls when he was with Pawtucket. Now she knows why and brags to everyone she knows that she got to see Mookie before he was in the majors.

Many of us can remember the nights when we checked in just to see what Betts did playing(2b)for Portland. We could see it...but not to this extent!
Not a Boras guy so I wouldn't say it couldn't happen? But is it likely, probably not (unless he's overwhelmed and maybe not even then)?

What's the record salary for a second year arbitration eligible player? Hard to imagine he doesn't top it. Not that I'm complaining, couldn't be happier that we get to watch him do all this amazing stuff. I'm guessing he'll be paid around $25M for his sixth season before becoming FA. That number is already baked into our budget. What's another $10M-$15M between friends? Pay the man his money. He earned it.

So does that make Mookie unique in baseball history? And by that I mean total baseball history, if you throw in players from earlier eras who might reasonably have been expected to win the awards that were created later.

And by that I mean total baseball history, if you throw in players from earlier eras who might reasonably have been expected to win the awards that were created later. I read that no one had ever had a 30/30 season and a batting title, period. The MVP, WS ring, GG, Silver Slugger, and MLB high for SA and R are gravy.
Dale Murphy in '83 was 30/30, MVP, GG, SS, RBI and SA leader, but the Braves finished 2nd.
Barry Bonds in '92 was 30/30, MVP, GG, SS, and led MLB in OBP, SA, R, and BB. But the Pirates famously lost the NLCS to the Braves in 7, on Francisco Cabrera's pinch-hit 2-out bases-loaded 1B; the last thing Bonds did that season (and in a Pirates uni) was not throw out Sid Bream at home.
Jimmy Rollins in '07 was 30/30, MVP, GG, SS, and led MLB in R and 3B, but the Phillies got swept by the Rockies in the DS.
There are probably other 30/30 MVPs.

Take one more run at him. He needs to be offered Trout money if he says no then one more year with this team and look to move him. It kills me to say it but a qualifying offer is not enough and if Trout money doesn’t do it to sign then he wants to move on.
I like to grow the team with Betts and Bogaerts. But within reason. There safe with Benny and Devers. I just wondering what Jackie thinks he is worth. They can not sign Sale long term. Look at the Maintence involved it sucks to say. He is a monster. But your looking at what 25 to 35 million . Think about that one. Sign Eovaldi and put Porcello on the market. This year will be the same team the next year things are gonna get interesting.
Plus we should start seeing the system growing the talent again.

Take one more run at him. I totally agree we should try again right now. The afterglow of the world series win plus the birth of his first child may be enough to make him think twice about saying no to a huge guaranteed contact. A family can change your priorities, making security rise on the list.
