At least if they're in Long Beach calling them "Los Angeles" won't be so ridiculous.

I don't want the owner's signature unless it's on a contract or on a deal to pay for his own damn stadium.

Keston Hiura is getting the call for Milwaukee. www.milb.com/milb/news/keston-hiura-promoted-to-milwaukee-brewers/c-307125072His timeline reminds me a lot of Benintendi. Also the fact that both were the best hitters in their college class but got picked where they did because they're kinda short. (The concerns about Hiura's defense were/are real, though). The juiced ball and PCL stadiums probably gave him a boost too, since he has 11 homers already, after hitting 17 in his first 165 pro games.

Moved all the economic conjecture about California to its own thread in the off-topic discussion. Have at it.

I guess everyone needs goals.

Between Tony Romo's run in the playoffs, and basketball and hockey right now, it's pretty clear that baseball has the worst broadcasts for its national telecasts of the four major sports. I actually think all three SNB announcers are decent on their own, but I don't love the production - they try to turn each game into an *event* rather than calling it pretty straight. And I think, in general, Mendoza and Rodriguez are trying to prove to their doubters that they know what they're talking about, which leads to too much talking. But the thing is (for different reasons) Mendoza and Rodriguez are always going to have those doubters. In the playoffs, the announcer teams have no chemistry. Ron Darling, for example, is really good on the SNY broadcasts but didn't have the same chemistry with Anderson. I don't have the issues with Joe Buck that some people do, and I think Smoltz can be incisive, but he's like the opposite of Romo in terms of his energy: he seems very focused on the way baseball is different than when he played and how much that sucks. He was reminiscing about pitch-outs at one point during the World Series. Pitch outs! Nobody misses pitch outs.
I feel like Pedro would be wonderful in the role if he wants it. He loves talking about how great every pitcher he sees is, and he gets amped about strikeouts. Which, there are a lot of strikeouts in baseball right now and that's probably going to continue, so it would be valuable to have an analyst who enjoys that.

JD Martinez and A-Rod talking about (or arguing over) launch angle would be entertaining. It seems A-Rod thinks that launch angle adopters literally swing their bats like golf clubs.

Anyone else keep forgetting that Rocco Baldelli is the Twins manager and get surprised for like five seconds every time you're reminded of it?

Anyone else keep forgetting that Rocco Baldelli is the Twins manager and get surprised for like five seconds every time you're reminded of it? I keep forgetting he played for the Red Sox. That 2009 teams feels totally made up, like Kotsay, LaRoche, Jason Bay, Casey Kotchman and Billy Wagner played in the same roster, it feels like someone cheating at MLB The Show in the mid 00's. And that's one year removed from the most random Red Sox player of all time, Sean Casey. The Mayor was with us for only a single year but goddamn it was an AWESOME year.

You're gonna namecheck the bizarre and wonderful randomness of the 2009 Sox and leave off all 325 pounds of Brad Penny?

Whoa, that's not the only big name left off - I believe that John Smoltz was on the 2009 Red Sox. Thought he'd be a big asset, but instead was a huge bust and got released half way through the season. I do believe that was 2009.

I don't remember any porn specifically and I'm terrified to google for obvious reasons, but Julian Tavarez? He was 2006 to 2008. He was a pretty key guy in 2007, eating some innings as the #5 guy while Lester recovered from his cancer scare.

Penny and Smoltz remind me of the days where we used to give out 1 year $5 million FA deals to just about anyone. I remember that was the common amount which became around $13 million in 2013. I think Mike Cameron was another one of those random players a year later.
