Stiut performance by Price. 10 ks and one hiccup. I’ll take that every time. yea, i just wish he could've gotten a little deeper with both Barnes and Brasier maybe unavailable. Hopefully the bullpen can hold, Brewer looked good there.

Be interesting to see who gets the 8th and 9th today. Get some more runs and make it easier.
Looks like Barnes is going a 3rd straight day for the 8th.

Ugh.... still loving his approach. I would Wally Pipp Mr. Nunez He has to be better, right? The only thing Nunez does better is run. Definitely better

Multiple pitch calling signs with the bases empty. Guess they might have been stealing signs.

Jesus, I don't know how you hit an inside curveball to RF for a HR. It wasn't a bad pitch at all. Juiced ball.

Maybe it's fluky he hit it oppo for a home run, but that ball was begging to be smacked somewhere It was too far inside because he crowds the plate to expect it to be hit hard. Unless you never want to throw a strike, it's not bad.

it's probably about time they DFA Thornburg though right? He hasn't pitched in a while, seems like Cora understandably doesn't trust him

Is it me or does Chavis have basically the same exact preswing routine as JDM? The sign of the cross, the deep breathing, etc?

I think the Red Sox would be better off with this game ending quickly regardless of how it ends.
Also, it's kinda dumb to not replace Chavis with Lin at this point.

Walden looks like he belongs. I wonder if they'll try to get another inning from him after only 9 pitches.

Is Pearce ok? He's looked really really bad, and is rocking a gnarly 3% walk rate and 40%+ K rate.

xwOBA adjusted for opponent quality and balls hit to CF. Number at the end is leverage-adjusted WPA per 60 IP.
.202 Barnes (2.23)
.236 Velazquez (0.15)
.272 Workman (-1.39, killed by the one NY outing)
.272 Walden (1.46)
.319 Brewer (-3.93)
.329 Hembree (0.66)
.352 Brasier (2.96)
.357 Thornburg (1.04)
Velazquez is presumably in the rotation while Porcello is out, so at present there's room for everyone here plus Poyner or someone else. But if folks get healthy and there's a roster squeeze, Walden in stating a case to stick around over Thornburg.
Brasier scares me. He's been getting the job done in large part due to a .240 BABIP, but Statcast says that's all luck. OTOH, he could start pitching like last year at any point.
Well, I either put the jinx or the reverse jinx on him, so whatever happens now is clearly my fault!
