Brayan Bello ranks very highly in groundball rate, swinging strikes, and strikes to balls ratio.

Great start for Bazardo in High A, giving up 7 hits in 14 2/3. He had the great opening day start for Lowell last year. Disappointed to see Montero, the other standout arm for Lowell, still out. I wonder if he will need surgery and if we will hear if he does.

Regarding the walk up music discussion from yesterday, the Yard Goats also do that to opposing team players in Hartford. When Colorado acquired Oh from Toronto sending Y-G outfielder Wall to Toronto, he was not immune to the distraction. He returned a week later and received a different song for each at-bat. One was Too Late To Apologize and another was Petty's Don't Come Around Here No More.

Optioned all the way to Salem? Probably won't stay there long, but he hasn't played in 2 years which is an incredibly long time for someone still developing.

Definitely a rust thing. Two years is a long, long time. Let the guy work his way back without immediately exposing him to higher level pitchers. Build back some confidence and sense of routine.

Basically, Hernandez is going to need more than the allowed rehab time to rehab, so they just went ahead and optioned him. Nothing has changed - he was already rehabbing there anyway.
Ian made a great point on the most recent podcast. I mentioned that Hernandez squared like he was going to bunt several times to start at-bats, and Ian pointed out that is a way for guys to get a better look at a pitcher. Hernandez is still working on his timing after being out so long, as noted, so that's why he's starting so low.

This isn't meant to be snarky - what advantage is there in ending the rehab before the period is up and using the option on him? I mean, there's a 95% he uses the option anyway. But if he has a setback, he goes onto the minor league IL and he's burned an option year.

Not sure that I'm right on this, but I think he's making his major league salary while on rehab but a minor league salary while optioned. CBT savings.

Henry Owens threw a six-inning no-hitter in 2014, the only no-hitter the Sea Dogs have had since they affiliated with Boston. They had two when they were a Marlins affiliates. One was started by Josh Beckett, the other by Brad Penny.

Brayan Bello ranks very highly in groundball rate, swinging strikes, and strikes to balls ratio. Bello with a solid start: 5IP 5H 2ER 2BB 7K, 7GO-1FO It was an especially impressive start when you consider he gave up 3 hits, a walk, and a run before recording his first out. It could have been a really short night for him but he turned things around with a quickness. Continuing the above theme via soxscout, his last three innings in particular were perfect with 4Ks and 4 groundouts to 1 flyout.

Casas with 2 XBH (2B and HR) so far. Pop starting to show up That kid can hit a HR swinging at half speed. The power is legit and will be there if he doesn't have too much swing and miss.

Best day for the org so far this year. A no-no, HRs and a sweep by all four.
