Yikes
Duran k swinging followed by (so far) 6 consecutive hits including a double and a triple.
Eight now. Duran has a chance to make the first 2 outs in an inning, a bad stat that's actually a good stat. Pitching change for some reason,
(not watching, just the gameday (box link doesn't work).

Interesting.
Duran walked but while he was at bat, there was a double steal attempt with a runner thrown out at home. Unless there was a ball that got away from the catcher that seems bush league. Fitz followed with a single before Myrtle escaped.

I don’t think it’s possible to be Bush league in the first inning
The score is 7-2 now. It’s very much a game

If that was intentional and I'm the reliever, Duran is getting a fastball someplace that hurts.

He didn't do anything, his team might have. I haven't watched the situation yet. As I said it could also have been a case where the ball bounced away from the catcher and they were caught trying to move up. That's different, that's not piling it on. Like it or not, that's baseball.

It was the first inning of what was a 5 run game 20 minutes later, I just don’t understand how that would be considered piling it on at all

You've had 8 consecutive hits, you have runners on 1st and 3rd, one out and your best hitter in the box batting left against a right handed pitcher. If it was a double steal attempt, you have opened up first base for them to walk him, which they did. He didn't score. If I was the reliever in that situation I'd certainly view it as piling it on.

Just watched - it was a straight steal.
Disagree on the bush league part, but whatever. We can agree to disagree. 6 runs is certainly still a ballgame.

Just watched - it was a straight steal. Melanie Newman also mentioned that Salem had tried it earlier on the homestand (or in the previous week--something like that). I think we've been lucky with first rate radio folks for the affiliates in general, but I'm really enjoying her calls of the Salem games.

Then we'll certainly disagree. It's not a question of whether it's a ballgame or not.
Even if it worked, it wasn't a wise decision.
Back to other:
Duran went 0/3 with two K's but also had three walks. Lots of hitting stars in scoring 15 runs, Fitz, Monge, Acosta.
Shawaryn with an effective but inefficient outing: 6.0 IP 4H 2R 2ER 5BB 1K 1HRA 94p/52s Santana with a nice line: 5.0IP 1H 0R 1BB 5K 79p/47s

Always informative.

Even if it worked, it wasn't a wise decision. Agree with that part 100%. I don't think it's bush league or anything unsporting, but it's pretty dumb to let a team out of an inning they can't get through on their own.

Way the game used to be played is forgotten by most. There were multiple automatic "you're going to get hit" episodes 25-30y ago. Piling on runs, stealing with a 4-5 run lead period. Hitting a HR period. My favorite is the one virtually half the hitters do now.. Dive over the plate.

Really strong outing from Yasel Santana yesterday: 5 innings and 5K's, just 1 hit and 1 BB.
