Chavis leading off. Vazquez in the 5 hole. Very strange lineup. "Strange" is one way to put it. Your DH today is hitting .181/.200/.250, which he's earned every bit of per Statcast, and he has a 2.6% walk rate. He's also a miserable defender who was below replacement last year and is on pace to be something like a negative five win player this year. I don't write about this a lot because it's not that fun to me to just relentlessly crush a guy, but Eduardo Nunez is just the absolute worst. I cannot remember the Red Sox using a roster spot on a more useless player.

Dombrowski has to DFA Nunez so he can keep him away from Cora. Cora is just going to keep putting him out there if he doesn't DFA him. It's annoying. Cora talks about using analytics all the time, yet here he is using the worst case scenario player according to the analytics.
Hopefully one more week until Pedrioa and Holt are back. So they can get rid of this Nunez problem.

Wow wasn't aware of this: Mookie's OPS vs LHP is .420?!? A positive regression is due for today I hope.

Chavis leading off. Vazquez in the 5 hole. Very strange lineup. Don't understand hitting Devers below Pearce That's because Pearce is going to break out today...

The way the Sox have been playing this series, the rain might be their best hope of not getting swept. It's not a good sign how the Sox have handled Houston and NY thus far. They stood up strong against TB, and then came home and only the rain prevented them from a 3 game sweep. I think Houston is looking for revenge after the way the Sox took them down at home last year. Meanwhile, I don't understand why Nunez keeps getting ABs, even against righties! And why is Chavis leading off? Why not just lead off Mookie and insert Devers into the #2 spot in the order instead of wasting him so far down in the order?

I hope he proves me wrong today. But why in the world do we keep running Nunez out there as a DH? He should be a spare part at best these days.

Happy to see Marco Hernandez at Pawtucket. If he is healthy, perhaps the Nunez conundrum can be solved (add Pedey and Holt, and if even 1 of the three is healthy, how can Nunez NOT be cut soon)

You guys are almost guaranteeing that Nunez hits a game-winning home run ;0)

So nice for the Sox offense to piss the bed for a third game in a row.

Pretty amazing to me that late in May, a crappy hitter like Marisnick is still OPSing over .900 just looking at the swings he's taking. Baseball is amazing. Still blows my mind.

This sox team is injured, tired, having down years, in mechanical funks. Houston is firing on all cylinders. The sox have the talent to hang around this year, I think there's still hope everyone gets their collective shit together at the same time and they put together one elite month.

I mean, it seems pretty unlikely they don't grab at least the second wildcard spot. the AL west is a mess other than the Astros, the Indians don't look great and are missing Kluber, which leaves I think three playoff teams coming out of the AL East. While I think we get a wildcard spot, I'm not sure we'll be able to leapfrog the two teams in front of us for the division.

They are going to have a long stretch without days off over the next month. If they are tired now, it's not going to get any better.

What's crazy is that the Twins have significantly higher playoff odds (89.1%) than the Sox (74.8%) and the Rays (73.5%). They look like they're for real (backed up by xwOBA, etc), so we likely just have to beat the Indians (57.9%) out for the last Wild Card spot.
