They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

Game 1 will be a big X factor. Hard to see us skating by on a Velazquez piggyback start against the Stros

At least the Sale game won't be competing with Game of Thrones! He would not compete. He would sit upon the iron throne and all would kneel and avert their eyes in the knowledge he is the true king.

Waiting for Holt.
His arrival will push Nunez back to the bench

glad we are downgrading our outfield defense (with the red hot astros who hit the ball hard and porcello who needs the defense) so we can let a hitter worse than Jackie be our DH. excellent

I have to tip my hat to this Astros team....such a strong and well-rounded team for a few years now and they have the ability to sustain their winning ways moving forward as prospects (e.g., Forrest Whitley, Kyle Tucker, Corbin Martin, Yordan Alvarez) come up to replace vets. Its just a damn good team and its been a lot of fun to develop a mini rivalry with them having taken turns booting each other out of the playoffs. Here's to hoping for a good showing this weekend although I'm not sure I love the pitching matchups.

Would be delighted if the Sox can cobble together two wins vs. the Stros. If they do, I will be able to forget that April ever happened, and just be excited about the rest of the season...

Vazquez is uncanny with letting balls getting by him to let runner's advance.

This is going to be a grind of a offensive game. Cole has great stuff tonight.

Porcello to his credit is matching Cole pitch for pitch so far.

This is going to be a grind of a offensive game. Cole has great stuff tonight. They haven’t broken through, but 57 pitches in 3 innings is something. Make him work for it and hope Porcello has one of his “Why can’t we hit this guy?!?!” 8-inning 95-pitch gems.

Bogey. I like that extension. He may never be spectacular, but he’s pretty damn good.

Cole has to be the worst matchup for a guy like Chavis. A guy with high velocity that can target the top of the zone against a hitter who likes it low.

Also, I’ll say again: I was totally wrong about trading Vazquez this offseason. He’s arguably the best catcher in the AL right now. What a difference a year makes.
