6/14 Gameday Thread: Hello Mata, Hello Spinners

Oh great, they created a Yasel Santana/Yusniel Padron hybrid and he's pitching tonight. Let's hope he has the best of both of their qualities. Yeah, what's up with that? They did just correct it on Twitter - Yusniel Padron. Did he drop the "-Artiles"? or is it still inaccurate?

Through 3 IP of strike zone pounding (32 P/24 S) only one ball was put in the air.

Maybe I’m just reading this wrong, but B-Ref says that this is the first time Mata has gone 6 innings since 8/30/17. And at only 73 pitches, he may set a new career high tonight. Don’t know if they want to do that so soon after coming back from a shoulder injury though.

Whatever his name is, and speaking of strike zone pounding, he got 5 outs on his first 6 pitches.

The box lists him as Yusniel Padron-Artilles. Believe the box.

The box lists him as Yusniel Padron-Artilles. Believe the box. Concur, believe the box over the people who have already missed his name once.

In spite of 7 strikeouts and 3 walks, Yusniel only at 65 pitches/47 strikes thru 6. All 7 of the strikeouts were swinging.
By the way, Artilles would be his mother's maiden name. His father would be a Padron-Somethingorother.

He remains my number 2 prospect in the system, only behind Casas. I have a top 60 coming out once the signings have been confirmed.

Having a pitcher that hasn't been able to stay on the field as your #2 seems aggressive. On his 5 strikeouts today, only one was swinging. I am curious, have you seen him pitch ?

Feltman with his 5th straight scoreless game in relief. Still struggling with control though.

Elio Prado with a HR, his 2nd of the season. He also picked up his 5th SB of the year. Lots of interesting stuff coming out of the DSL....should be an exciting Instructs with some of these guys coming over stateside. Just came to post on that. Nice toolset for a CF; 5 doubles, too, and 8 walks vs 9 k in 51 PA. And, he doesn’t turn 18 until November. Really liking what we’re seeing so far from the DSL teams. Cat wait to see what they do for signings this year.

Also, my man Brainer Bonaci with the 2-4 and a triple to boost his BA to .413 and his OPS to 1.068.

Very efficient tonight; the 3:1 GB:FB ratio and his K rate being up, while the walk rate is WAY down are awful nice to see. His BAA has dropped every year, to the point of ridiculous this year. If not for the injury I’m sure he’d be in AA. Even so, I can’t imagine him spending all that much more time in Salem. I’d love to see him get 10 starts in AA this year. He might do the same next year, where he’s an early repeat with a low threshold for moving up. If he stays healthy, I could see him ascending quickly.

Victor Acosta has been pretty much on fire lately but has yet to show the HR power he had in the DSL.

Yes, I've seen him pitch a few times in person and lots of video. In my opinion, they are just being conservative with his arm. He's gotten a lot bigger in the last two years. He gets great downward movement with his fastball. The command has been much better this year. I am very high on him, but it also speaks to the quality of our system. For many clubs, he would struggle to crack the top 5.

Logan Browning on about as hot a streak as you are going to see. Over his last 6 appearances, he has a win and two saves, 7.1 IP, 0 H/BB/R and 12Ks

For many clubs, he would struggle to crack the top 5. Here, he's barely in the top 10 on pretty much any list you would care to look at. I'm in no way any kind of pitching guru but I've watched him on TV a few times and don't disagree that if he stays healthy, he will have a nice future. I of course hope you are right. He generates a lot of ground balls, even most of the hits are on the ground. ADD: Major or minor, conservative or aggressive approach, back and shoulder issues are not what you would want to hope for.

I liked that Decker worked 2 walks (even the strikeout was on full count), also liked Antoni Flores' all fields approach even if it led to just 1 hit (FB to LF, LD to CF, 2 FB to RF), Jiminez athleticism in the field, according to Ian, is the cherry on top. Gonna be a nice summer following these kids!

Wow!!!
I know, I know..... milb wins don't much count. But today, the state-side Red Sox teams were 6-0!! Overall we were 7-1 inclusive of the DSL.
